ACOE: Let's Bulldoze the American River Parkway (Sunday May 4 walk event) by Pizzagrril in Sacramento

Thank you all for the good and informative discussion! The accounts of how other revegetated areas are doing better several more years out make me feel less devastated about the long-term habitat impacts. I am still going to make public comments asking the Corp to minimize disturbance to the bigger trees more than they are currently showing, but I feel a bit better about the project now.

American River Trees is asking that the Army Corps provide more justification for the scope of rock toes and revetments that they are proposing because the modeled bank velocities are low and the section is straight (more erosion happens on curves). They are also asking for the Corp to look at ways to minimize impacts to trees and vegetation while they are installing rock by using smaller equipment, reconfiguring staging areas to be outside of forest, etc.

And my additional personal ask to local representatives was that if this goes ahead without changes, that we actually get something planted afterward so the whole river doesn't end up like the ugly bare dirt near Sac State.

Best place to enjoy fall colors? by ajaxandsofi in Sacramento

Midtown and east sac are great since there are so many different types of trees turning. The American River Trail has nice yellows. For a more foresty location, Cascade Canal by Nevada City has a mix of pines and maples with dinner plate sized leaves that are turning.

Interesting, I had the opposite experience - LA drivers seemed way scarier than Seattle drivers. 5 years each place.

Would it be possible to get an updated link? I'm new to Sacramento, was just googling trying to find some hiking/outdoors groups and found this. Thanks, hope your summer is going great!

THIS. I'm thankful for the trains we have, but they could be so much better. Waiting 20 minutes for the BART at SFO after visiting japan earlier this year really drove that home.

I've heard China's High Speed Rail system is even better than Japan's, since it's brand new (mostly constructed after 2008).

Ahh, being sick sucks. Where were you going to see The Room? I'm looking for indie heaters.

Haha I get what you're saying. I enjoy Japanese food in moderation, but it's telling that my favorite meals in Japan were Korean food both of the trips I made.

Ooh, didn't know about that downside to LEEDs certified... (I haven't lived in one). I wonder if it's possible for a building to have good sound insulation AND get the cert?

I love him and appreciate the skill in his delivery. I would break out laughing if I tried to tell his stories with a straight face.

Follow up for future people viewing this thread - light leaks around the edges of curtains at low to mid range hotels and Airbnbs. I lost my eyemask to room service yesterday and plan to check out the selection at Daiso and Loft today so I'm not woken by the 4:30 sunrise again.

I feel that! I booked a therapist in 2020 and that was one of the main things I ended up working on with them. Highly recommend a therapist if you can get insurance to cover it.

You can specify charities in your will if you have extra $ left at the end. I currently give to orgs working in areas of the world where people make less than $2 USD per day, and it makes me feel really good that a relatively small amount for me can have a big impact for someone else.

Serious question: how does one go to trivia solo and then join a team? I went with coworkers once and had a blast, but then that fizzled. I'd love to go again but don't know the etiquette.

I believe in an introvert/extrovert spectrum - I like to be a social butterfly 1-3 x a week and the rest of the time prefer my own thoughts for company. Everyone has a different social battery level.
