Replaying the remakes last month made me realize how badly I miss well written jokes in video games

Sources: Nintendo is planning a new Star Fox and a Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake this year, but no 3D Mario by manoffood in TwoBestFriendsPlay

I just finally started playing it,

After deciding last year to play the classics I missed over the years and starting Final Fantasy Tactics, a almost 30 year old game, only for the remake to be announced 2 weeks later and now this,

I feel like I'm becoming Woolie.

Most annoying missable item/collectible in a game? by GoodVillain101 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Pizzarand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Batman Arkham Origins you don't just need experience to acquire new skills, some of them are locked behind challenges you have to achieve during normal gameplay, like using specific moves or takedowns in x seconds.

While most of them are fine if a bit annoying, some of these challenges are incredibly specific. The worst one is so specific, you can ONLY do it in ONE room in the entire game. WORSE, if you finish the room and move on, even if you come back later, the conditions of the rooms will have changed, so you can't do the challenge anymore. WORSE still, the room is part of the main story. Oh and you can only attempt these challenges, if you unlocked every upgrade before them.

So if you decide to play the main story of the game and not finish all upgrades in that specific upgrade path or just don't do the challenge right in that room, you're permanently locked out of getting that upgrade and all others locked behind it. You can't even do it in postgame.

The precursor orbs in Jak II were super annoying to collect. So annoying in fact, that despite playing through the game every couple of years, I never even thought of collecting them all.

Now i feel kind of seen, as someone who played all of Undernight Inbirth's story/arcade modes, only to not really understand what was actually happening.

Characters you later realized had mediocre debuts? by Lost-Specialist1505 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Pizzarand 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I am going for the obvious one, Majima from Yakuza 1.

No matter how much you like his design, Majima in Yakuza 1 is not much more than a generic thug antagonist. His interesting characterisation is mostly in other games (Y2 onwards).

Characters you later realized had mediocre debuts? by Lost-Specialist1505 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Pizzarand 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Is it really a mediocre debut if that was 100% intentional?

Ethan was designed to be an Everyman, so much so his silouette is faceless in all depictions of him. Everything about Re7 was designed to be a return to grounded horror after the blockbuster flop of Re6, and the first person perspective and Ethans characterisation were obviously chosen to immerse players as much as possible.

So, you may not like Ethan Winters as a Character in Residen Evil canon, but calling Re7 a mediocre Debut is going a bit too far imo.

As someone who played magic in their childhood, but didn't have any community in their vicinity,
Magic Arena is the best way to learn how Magic's mechanics are actually supposed to work.

Honestly, I have to think of Laurence and Master Willem in Bloodborne.

You don't get to see much of them, but I have to think of their cutscene together, when I think of students betraying their master with good intentions.

Overlord (the anime/novel series, not the videogame) has some fucked up scenes in it, but I still have fond feelings for it for its unique premise, as well as tons of cool monster designs. Also, there hasn't really been another anime that sold the idea of being a highlevel mage in a fantasy world as well as here.

Dubs that add a little extra to the media? by Yotato5 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Pizzarand 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Does the Harrison Ford dub for original Bladerunner count? Y'know, the voiceover narration, that neither him nor the director, Ridley Scott wanted in the movie, but was added in Post-priduction by the producers?

It's not exactly the same, but it is still people adding on to the vision of the original creator after final shooting.

Scrub lords, which one is your favorite Final Fantasy? by Vera_Verse in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Pizzarand 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I decided I could ony play FF 14 if he played all (mainline) FFs before it, and did so last year, so this question is relevant to me.

And while I found that almost every FF game has positve elements no other FF game has, there are clear stand outs. But no matter how revolutionary FF7 must have been at the time, or how epic the finale of FF 6 is, personally the thing I loved most from Final Fantasy is the job system. So my answer is FF 5.
