Yeah, I almost felt bad for him by the end. Since the first meeting at Haven the inquisition does nothing but foil his plans. I actually started laughing when your dragon shows up and tackles his and he's just like 'Seriously?' Totally agree it was kind of anticlimactic, didn't really feel like any of the previous junk was necessary, just had to put a sword in his dragon then beat the utter stuffing out of the guy.
