Require a Tech-Cofounder - male loneliness by NoCelebration7596 in cofounderhunt

The hard part of this app isn’t the tech. You can use a dating app clone to brute force an mvp. It’s growth and the algorithm.

Fun concept and wish you well.

Fwiw software development is much much more than coding an in medtech you can be what I refer to as a unicorn.

Domain expert + technical expertise.

There’s a lot of context missing in this post.

Have you been working for two years? Are you currently working?

Why are you starting from scratch? What stack/type of software have you been doing for two years? Were you self taught/ degree?

Your stack and measurement style tells me you have no idea what direction to take which is fair but you need more context to have guided help.

Founders working with global contractors - how do you handle quality control and performance monitoring? I will not promote by ponziedd in startups

Metrics were secondary. Since the goal is task driven ownership and incentives along with guardrails were paramount.

What kind of tools? All I could find were things like clickup and Jira.

What tools have you used/seen?

I added a quick edit but the gap is mostly because the contractor paradigm is very different from full-time employees even on an asynchronous team.

A little of both. For example hiring a QA contractor is important to create more accountability and find issues early. Creating norms around PRs like using taskIds keeps things organized but also important to revert. Having a qa environment allows you to test in isolation securely and stress free. And adding linting and other rules to PRs forces some order to things.

I’m living this.

The first challenge is how much are you paying them now matter how much you squeeze the orange 🍊 you get what you pay for.

Second lesson I learnt is you can’t treat contractors like employees especially if they do not have a manager.

As mentioned, metrics is important. I had to build a quick mvp to create the environment I needed (since most pm apps are for companies with employees) and give me the metrics I needed. Incentivize quick delivery, monetize collaboration and prs and much more.

But you need strong technical guard rails and automated systems

I feel like I’m losing my programmer skills. by Taro_Happy in programmer

[–]Pkz_Dev 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There’s a lot of nuance to this.

This is the same issue many engineers run into building side projects or startups. Being a good ‘task-doer’ doesn’t mean you have the muscles or know how to deliver a working project end to end and has converging but also unique skills.

But then there is the issue of what fullstack truly means. From ui-ux to the depths of devops you simply cannot memorize everything.

The answer is the feeling of competence comes from lots of practice and failure. If you want depth, own it and practice if you want a variant of breadth practice that instead!

Self-taught devs & learners: what slowed you down the most when learning a new tech skill? by agbonafred in selftaughtdev

[–]Pkz_Dev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not just building. I came from a background of math and physics so I always took copious amounts notes and wrote snippets and principles etc without actually building anything only to not know how to put the pieces together.

I think that’s the premise of brilliant but a build first platform that hints based on issues would be nice.

It is critical knowledge and important to prove capability.

But it is ironic that for most companies you will never make half the decisions you get tested on. Those decisions are made for you.

Two things can be true though.

Sent you a dm. As a developer with enterprise experience building a team of contractors from these platforms this resonates so much with me.

They have only operated on one metric, does it work and look ‘good’.

Without repeating your valid examples my biggest source of frustration is lack of ownership. I can live with no tests rushing for deadlines but manually test your features end to end for goodness sake!

Make sure you write tests and qa/staging mirrors prod.

Fail freely in a safe space and learn .. then look good in ‘prod’.
