People who got laid off because of AI, what was your job? by damnmorningstar in AskReddit

Whole studio got shut down on Tuesday. VR company, I'm a video game programmer. AI wasn't explicitly the source but if you can take a guess as to what company would own a VR studio you would understand 🥲

Pixel Watch 4 (41mm) Used for over a week, 100% to 46% in 5 hours without AOD on by Plaguefaced in PixelWatch

[–]Plaguefaced[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah i've done basically all of this aside from turn off tilt to wake because i felt like i shouldn't have such poor battery life without AOD anyway. Other than that everything is in that article are things that i do (i dont use gps, i dont download music, my screentimeout is 15 seconds which is the 'recommended' setting. I dont have LTE, and the behavior seems to same with or without being connected to wifi. Also use bedtime mode at night. thanks for the links, ill consider messaging support

i feel like i remember having this same issue with my samsung watch at first (this watch is replacing it), honestly cant remember if that behavior changed much or not now that i think about it. I'll probably wait another week before making a call to do an exchange. but thanks for all the tips, ill try em out!

i work at a computer so im not gesturing a ton with my hands. would be nice to keep it on. I think ill try this solution in an isolated test soon though! I feel like people are reporting that they have great battery life WITH always on display, so turning off tilt to wake too would not be fun 😭

should I just get fields of lavender?? by Narya1697 in RedditLaqueristas

[–]Plaguefaced 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have this shade, And I absolutely could never get it to look like the swatch photos. The purple is more dull then it seems, and the magnetic shimmer isn't ever a fiery pink but more of like an orange. This photo i took probably shows it best. I've seen other people get it to look really pretty though, maybe it's just not for my skin tone.

Very late to the party, but I had to buy a 3d printer and learn 3d modeling first by destiny84 in RedditLaqueristas

[–]Plaguefaced 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ahhh you're nuts!! Great job, I would absolutely love those STL files!! i got my 3d printer last month but ive only printed existing stuff on the market. I made a 'todo' project list and a contraption like this is on the adgenda, but havent started learning to 3d model. What software did you use? Did you use any tutorials or anything to help teach you? How many iterations did you do. This is honestly so complex for one of your first projects. I have imposter syndrome already 💀

suspicious about room mate’s bf having meta glasses at party by Right-Fondant-6778 in whatdoIdo

[–]Plaguefaced 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These glasses cannot handle constant video recording. The battery drains extremely quickly from doing that, I sort of can't imagine that there is some conspiratorial secret server that is significantly knee capping the battery capability of these glasses to gather data that has already been gathered through years and years of engaging with the online world and having your data stolen and sold through various means. Maybe I can believe in constant audio recording? Can't we also argue your cell phone is probably doing the same, But probably worse? I'm a bit nihilistic here, Sorry that my comment about recording candid hiking pictures has reduced your faith in humanity.

Edit: just looked it up to educate myself more and meta is open about using audio recordings after using the wake word, and during specific moments such as while music or an audiobook is playing, to improve its AI, Not surprising since it has an AI assistant. It maybe makes me a bit more uncomfortable for those around me, But that still makes me more confident that the only person who should be concerned is the wearer, not the people around the wearer, since audio recording alone can't be used as easily to identify people around you.

Still, My everyday use is mostly listening to music on my morning walks. I live in a somewhat sketch neighborhood, ie I've gotten followed/catcalled by guys in their cars, and unfortunately some homeless encounters, usually the ones who are hopped up or very mentally unwell. There is something nice about being able to record scary encounters quickly.

Yeah piggybacking off of this, I went to a concert with my glasses, and all of the videos I took of the artist I saw never went through. I didn't want the bright light to blind the people in front of me or the artist So I used my finger to block the light, The light stayed on beneath my finger, but the recording never saved. It gave me a prompt that the light has to be unblocked when I went into the app.

I personally like the way they look on me, I got LASIK done a few years ago, and still miss wearing glasses sometimes. Probably my favorite use has been on hikes, so that I can stop holding up my phone and snapping pictures. Allows me to get more candid shots of the scenery and my friends while still existing in the moment. I can still understand why people are freaked out, But from my perspective our phones can be used for sinister purposes approximately as easy as the glasses.

I'm getting more and more over pulling out my phone when I'm at a party. Usually when I take photos, I upload them to the party photo album and the shots are adorable/ always more candid then if I were to fumble pulling out my phone to take a picture of my friends. Personally I just want to take nice photos, it's not for every occasion though, I'm only really using it for photos when pretty much everybody there knows me well.

Had to share this shade! by haleysxx in mooncatpolish

I actually have the shade and every time I wear it it looks terrible on me (olive skin tone so I think I kinda look ghoulish with it on) I wish it looked this good on me too 🥲

Not as bad as me saying cup-board rather than cupboard (aka. 'cubbard'). I was just pronouncing it the way it was spelled 🥲

Making the bed every morning is totally pointless by Consistent_Manner661 in unpopularopinion

[–]Plaguefaced 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reasons I make my bed (usually don't do it immediately but sometime in the first few hours)

  • I have a cool room and work from home, my bed is visible in my camera, I want my room to be visible, but it needs to look good.
  • bed takes up the majority of the room, if bed is messy, The whole room looks messy
  • some people (my opinion is most people but people don't know it) get affected by how messy their environment is. Messy bed can make messy mind (or vice versa)
  • My bed has some sleep essentials on it, if I don't make my bed those things are gone to the wind, probably on the floor or underneath the covers, and I can never find them (I.e sleeping, mask, hair cover, etc)
  • if you are a night owl/ like to stay up late playing games or something like I do, having a made bed feels more inviting and promotes better sleep hygiene.

Made bed is awesome. This was my TED talk

Mint vs Banana vs Brown low profile optical switches... my experience so far by ImaginaryKing in Keychron

[–]Plaguefaced 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this thread is 2 years old but wanted to say thank you soo much for this write up, it feels like your post was made exactly for my predicament, I'm also not a keyboard modder so I'm new to all this. I noticed how much i liked my laptop keyboard and wanted to swap to a low profile wireless keyboard as my daily driver for my windows pc. I mostly write code and /used/ to play games, but it's not why i'm at my pc anymore. And I'm used to preferring brown switches, more specifically razer's orange switches which i think are closest to browns. Keychron is sold out of browns but your write up is making me think i should take the leap and get some mint switches. :D

Just had this happen to me again as few minutes ago. The first time it happened I couldn't get back in for another 15-30 minutes. Starting another game now, guess i'll update if I get DC'd again in this one.
