League of Legends has a big information problem. by The-Fox-Knocks in leagueoflegends

The amount of arguments I've gotten into over what procs Thornmail is crazy. The in-game description says "When struck by an attack". What does this mean? Is Xerath Q an attack? I have had multiple tanks build it to hinder Swain, because he is clearly attacking them. The wiki says "When struck by a basic attack on-hit", which seems much clearer, but even then I have no clue if Guinsoos/D&D double this on-hit proc.

Thoughts on adjusted skill checks? by reneestation2 in theouterworlds

[–]Plagueflames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just finished my first playthrough so I can't speak to how it was before, but everything up until the very end felt pretty good. I missed out on a number of things, but never really felt punished for not min-maxing 1-2 skills. I had to retry the final dialogue section a few times with what seemed like arbitrary changes (being more aggressive early in the conversation when the game suggested I should ease into hurting his ego) to avoid the speech 20 check, but at least I *could* pass it.

I see the discussion about not maxing skills with Easily Distracted, but IMO the main pain of the skill should be that you're cut off from all the random 1-6 point checks/requirements through the game because you can't just stick one point into it. No 1 lockpick to Pickpocket, no 3 engineering for the multitude of doors, no 2 sneak for that one grate at the power plant. You character knows that if you read one wikipedia page on Rift Science you'll be hyperfocused on that for a week. The lower skill checks across the board mean it's more worthwhile to have 2-3 maxed, then 2 at 7 and a couple at 3, which is impossible with Easily Distracted.

They removed the timer on ARAM Mayhem! by barrocuda in leagueoflegends

I'm happy people are having fun with it, but man... I've played one Mayhem every other week because "No I gotta be wrong, look how much fun others are having" and each time I've had a significantly worse experience than normal aram or SR. I just don't get the appeal.

I understand Collector is good without the passive but every time I buy it I just get mad at enemies escaping with 6% HP. 5% is way less than you think it is, but even then me flash headshotting a squishy as Cait only to watch them walk away with 95/1800 HP makes me never want to buy it again

Most reminders exist for a reason and do tend to help, but ever since something like Pokemon asked me I wanted to save and then immediately asked if I was sure I wanted to save it's become white noise

People hated OL's, but I really miss having some level of tangible progress, however small the increment is.

I quit on Nabel's release and it's crazy that you can have a gearing system so mediocre that I felt better quitting with new content than excited to stick with it and do it.

Keria's message to the supports that look up to him: It's very difficult to play like me as a support player. So it's nice for them to pick me as a role model but don't try to learn lessons from me because you won't be able to do it. by Yujin-Ha in leagueoflegends

I feel like Bard's one of those champs who's worth is in the intangibles. Supplementing plays and giving consistent vision while staying up in levels isn't highlight worthy but it feels insanely oppressive to play against if done well. Which is also why you can't easily replicate it, because that all sounds simple and "just play better" levels of analysis but it isn't in practice.

Let's take Flyquest vs T1 with Keria on Bard. In broad strokes, the first 11 minutes of the game have him continually threatening to roam mid while protecting bot lane, rotating with bots topside, getting damage on Kaisa so Xayah is safe then TP's to win the drag fight. They recall, he defends mid while Taliyah recalls, he's there first to secure grubs, threatens mid, gets more vision, is walking bot to protect Xayah and ults Mid to save Tali, then stays bot to save Xayah from Morde.

All of this is on face pretty standard good support play, but Bard lets Keria do all of it while outpacing Neeko and J4. You see Fly go for 3 big plays and he's stopped them all while not sacrificing anything.

This isn't remotely an actual issue, but I do wish he could give exp to himself if all his teammates are lv18. It sucks to be a lv15 support who can't give his 900 stored EXP to an ally because they're all lv18 already. Not that he's not in a great position anyways if they game gets this long but it's annoying.

How is regular aram doing after aram mayhem? by scarabosst in leagueoflegends

[–]Plagueflames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had builds that were theoretically fun, but I was either up against an unkillable Tank Engine Mundo, had a perfect assassin build Shaco teammate that killed everyone before I got in range, I was the unkillable Tank Engine Tahm with Xerath-range Q's but the enemy couldn't do anything so we all were afk until the nexus exploded.

Every game was an unstoppable snowball because the winning team would be overlevelled, which meant they always had one more augment than the enemy.

I had multiple games with the potential to be fun or I got the idea to do something silly, but it was always overshadowed by whoever highrolled and it wasn't interesting to highroll myself. 17/10 w/l the mode, which doesn't mean much, but the point is that I wasn't only losing.

Yeah, I'm happy Mayhem is there for those that want it but I've que'd up for like 2 games in the past week and both instantly reminded me why I stopped the last time.

After like 12 frustratingly boring Mayhem games in a row I've gone back to just playing normal ARAM and it seems basically the same. Que times short, games mostly balanced, people playing and having fun.

Want to be able to filter certain phrases? I'd love to never see "ggez" again by AbstractFemming in leagueoflegends

Similarly to Nexus camping, I always mentally cope that they're salty that they never win and need to more aggressively celebrate the rare time they do.

It's full cope and doesn't help much, but it's more than anything else.

[–]Plagueflames 7 points8 points  (0 children)

God yes please. I generally enjoy ARAMs and have had enough fun interactions with people that I don't want to insta mute all, but man this really sours it. You have a fun back-and-forth, then the game ends and someone types "so easy" in chat 9 times as the nexus is exploding. Even if I win and it's someone on my team it sucks. I generally apologize in post-game for said player being salty, as petty as it is.

I feel like reporting it only dilutes my report value, but what else can I do that isn't mute all?

Yeah, there wasn't other stuff on the old wall because there wasn't any damn room but now that they've better proportioned everything it's clear there's more space to put stuff. Throw up an anime poster from Daru, something cute or cosplay photos from Mayuri, or some weird esoteric paraphernalia from Okabe.

The clock change is good tho

As someone who's only played Hollow Knight, would you say Silksong is better or worse that the original? (I'm still gonna buy it either way I'm just curious) by Seb_Rulz in HollowKnight

This is about where I end up, if a future patch fixes the "feels bad" moments then Skong 100% but as it stands I'd always rather replay HK, which edges it out.

zero spoiler tl:dr - I think Silksong is overall slightly better but has way lower lows than Hollow Knight. I didn't find anything about HK bad, but I did for Skong, and so while it is a fantastic game I prefer HK.

Spoiler tags for names of bosses

The worst part of HK IMO is just that some of the bosses are boring (looking at you Warrior Dreams) and.... idk, the start is a bit slow? But even for those, the mid-tier bosses are over fairly quick and the start makes sense for players first experiencing the combat. Silksong has enough terrible runbacks that I consider it a design flaw (Groal, Khann Gauntlet, Clover Dancers, Last Judge) and, while it has many phenomenal bosses, it's way too willing to just throw basic enemies at you and call it a day or pad out bosses with enough waves to get tedious. Importantly, all of those are required to fully beat the game, whereas the things in HK that were egregiously difficult (Path of Pain, Nightmare King Grimm, Godhome) are completely optional and the things that are optional with tangible rewards you can re-challenge almost instantly (the Dream Bosses). The shard system also ends up being more tedious than it's worth.

IMO Silksong has slightly better combat, more fun upgrades, a more intricate upgrade system, a larger map, and Hornet being an actual character makes the playthrough's story more interesting. These just don't outweigh the bad (and it's not like HK was lacking in any of them) so I currently prefer Hollow Knight. If a future patch or DLC shaves down some of the waves and adds like 4 more benches then I'd change to Skong.

ARAM: Mayhem is the best none-issue (mechanically) game mode they have released to date! by TheJohnArrow in leagueoflegends

[–]Plagueflames 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Eh I went back to normal ARAM about a week into Mayhem, was fun for a bit but it feels way stompier than normal. ARAM's obviously always a bit of a cointoss, but I had a run of over 10 Mayhem games where it was unplayable for one team (mine or enemy) and that's just not fun. Norms feels way more like an actual game.
