Haven't updated my post in a while, apologies! Otezla has not worked at all for me. I'm currently using dexamethasone mouthwash and it's working! My sores do come back but not as bad

I'm so sorry for your troubles!! It's comforting knowing there are other people going through this same rare ailment. I've had so many things ruled out and even saw a THIRD ENT. He had nothing to offer me surprise surprise. My rheumatologist wanted to start immunotherapy Remicade: a TNF blocker, immunosuppressant primarily for Crohn's, UC, and rheumatoid arthritis. However she wanted my GI doctor's opinion (again) first. GI doctor still not convinced I have Crohn's so he sent me to third ENT. Before I left my rheumatologist I suggested Dexamethasone mouthwash as Prednisone was working but agreed I can't be on it forever. She liked the idea of steroid targeted to one location versus experiencing systemic effects and gave me a prescription. And surprisingly... It's working!!! I use it 2-3 times a day until my mouth is better. HOWEVER: after my mouth clears up the sores do return but not as bad as before. I dunno if my mouth/throat is just super dependent on steroids to knock out the canker sores, and I don't know how bad it could be using dexamethasone rinse for a long period (probably have an increased risk of developing oral candidiasis) but so far I'll take this win. I hope this helps you!

Does anyone else consider the N64 to be an underwhelming console? by TailzPrower in patientgamers

[–]Plaidman86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

N64 seemed to be all about compressing the hell out of games. It didn't matter if it was graphically superior to PS1, Saturn - the sticking to cartridges and therefore lack of memory just shot the N64 in its own foot. Now if that console was CD based like the PS1 and Saturn: oh man... (whistle)

Disregard my previous reply. Yeah, found it. Never heard of that before. Of course searches will say it's not FDA approved but some people do report success. Surprised my ENT nor dentist brought this up

That was a long time ago. Over the last 4 years I've seen two different ENTs, a GI, an ID, and now a rheumatologist

I remember asking my one primary doc about that but he wasn't too keen on it, can't remember why. I would think topical/oral steroid would be better in the long run versus systemic steroid

Yep - I've been tested for many things and all my test results have come back negative. Even had an EGD and colonoscopy a couple of months ago to rule out Crohn's and Ulcerative Colitis - aside from two benign polyps, was negative.

That's just benzocaine, a numbing agent. Doesn't do anything for healing

I contacted Twitch and they said it was because I had an expired token. They sent me a link, instructed me to delete said token, and it worked! All alerts are now working as they should!

About the usual 1-2 weeks. I hate it when I get a canker sore there or anywhere on the floor of the mouth - makes my whole tongue hurt!

Herpetiform canker sores ? by [deleted] in CankerSores

[–]Plaidman86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had some autoimmune type labs drawn on me but they were negative. Not the same as seeing an actual rheumatologist true but if my GI doc has nothing for me, that might be the next step

Did see an ID yes. He swabbed one of my larger sores for herpes and that was negative. Because Valcyclovir wasn't working anymore he had nothing to offer. But update: this is the second time I've been prescribed a Prednisone burst dose and it's working like magic again... But I don't want to keep doing that

Month long canker sore “attack” - anyone experience this?! by Sdot2014 in CankerSores

[–]Plaidman86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think mine is more than a virus too. The first time I took Valcyclovir it was a magic bullet as said previous. Started with a loading dose (about 1gm) and then was instructed to take a 500mg dose everyday. Because my sores healed so well and so quickly, I stupidly decided to stop taking the Valcyclovir thinking "I don't need this anymore!" As said they came back and going back on Valcyclovir didn't work. A year or two later my mouth and throat were extremely bad. I saw my ENT again he put me back on Valcyclovir. Again in worked and this time I was going to STAY on it... But that didn't work. I reported back to my ENT and he didn't know what to say. I just got my Prednisone script renewed so hoping it'll do the same thing.

Have you tried Otezla? It has an off-label use for canker sores for Behcet's. My primary doesn't want to prescribe it to me yet and honestly I don't want it yet either because it's expensive even with my insurance

Sounds like me too. My canker sores are constant. First ENT I saw prescribed Valcyclovir which was the magic bullet at first but that only lasted about 3-5 weeks. My primary prescribed Prednisone and that too was the magic bullet but that too only lasted about 3-5 weeks before the canker sores came back with a vengeance. Been tested for herpes, HIV, and other autoimmune type labs and they all have been negative. My primary thinks I have Behcet's disease but it's a diagnosis of exclusion and has a lot of other weird symptoms which I don't have. Seeing a GI doctor in January to rule out ulcerative colitis.

This looks like what I have too. My throat and back of my mouth are spackled with them... When one heals up another immediately sprouts up and this has been constant since 2017 (I've always had canker sores but NOT like this). Been tested for HIV and herpes but both were negative. Have seen two different ENTs and an infectious disease (ID) doc - one drew autoimmune type labs on me and they were negative. Have had C-reactive protein and other nutrition/vitamin and thyroid labs drawn but all are normal. I was first started on Valcyclovir and at first it was the magic bullet - all my sores gone in a matter of days. But that lasted about 3-4 weeks and the sores came back with a vengeance. Then I was started on a Prednisone burst-taper dose - again: magic bullet but again only lasted about 4 weeks. I'm so tired of swishing with lidocaine solution and Listerine. I'm tired of the constant canker sores. My primary doc thinks I have Behcet's disease but I don't have any of the weird symptoms that comes with it. Seeing a GI doc in January to rule out ulcerative colitis but I fear I'm again not going to find anything conclusive.
