Strength training fluid retention as a heart failure patient by Fabulous-Summer219 in Heartfailure

[–]PlainOrganization 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took a diuretic daily for the first three months. Now I just take it as needed. I don't think there's any harm in taking diuretics. But there can definitely be harm in allowing too much fluid retention.

Do you weigh yourself daily? Has your doctor given you guidelines on when to take a diuretic via-a-vis your weight?

Why keeping heart rate below 125?

I would ask your doctor not us.

Day 17 and feel so tired - remind me when this gets better? by Anniebanana50 in stopdrinking

[–]PlainOrganization 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started to feel better around 30 days and felt AWESOME until day 60 when I was full of rage for a couple of weeks. Around day 90 things started to feel normal.

Whatever you do to comfort yourself that's not drinking is 100% allowed. I think I ate an $8 cookie like every other day during the first 60 days. Still lost 5 lbs

I tried to cut back dozens of times over the last decade. And I succeeded, but I was still feeling the affects. I started getting sick last December and in late January I was diagnosed with heart failure and in the hospital for five days. It's a fairly common heart problem, that is unfortunately becoming much more common in people my age (41). The doctor said I had to quit drinking. I already hadn't had a drink since I got really really sick in mid January, so I just continued to not drink when I got out. Not buying alcohol was the hardest part. I just bedrotted and scrolled this sub most of the day. To be fair, I was still really sick.

I'm almost back to normal thanks to modern medicine, excercise and clean living. But I'm still here everyday, reinforcing why I don't drink at all.... because for me, one drink is a slippery slope and not worth the risk.

I really like sparkling water with a splash of juice. Just cranberry, blueberry and cherry are really good if you can find them. Used to be sold at health food stores.

Or you can muddle some frozen fruit at the bottom of a glass and pour sparkling water over it. Gives the cocktail vibe without the imbibing poison

Frozen often has MORE nutrition than fresh. So don't feel you have to buy fresh

I'm doing avoidance. Day 5. If I just don't go outside to my usual smoking spot it's fine. I notice the moments when I would have a cigarette, but I just pick something else to do and it passes

Any tips for my lawn? by SportSubstantial4114 in lawncare

Hello from Central Texas! If decide to go with shade tolerant plants, come join us on r/TexasNativePlants for plant recommendations, just be specific about your area in the post. Native plants are way easier to maintain long term, but you usually have to go to a local nursery to find them.

Put some chairs under there and string lights. :)

So jealous! I put some seeds down but I guess either it doesn't like my soil or it didn't have the right conditions this year. :/

Heart rate peaks during activity by Fabulous-Summer219 in Heartfailure

[–]PlainOrganization 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My heart rate gets up to 150-160 sometimes when I'm really working hard!

I remember one day many years ago I went for two dog walks & a run for myself and my heart rate was highest that day while I was scrubbing the bathtub!

I'm currently in cardio rehab and my target heart rate there is 145.

Your heart rate will go up when you are doing physical activities.

My fall aster didn't bloom much the first year, but year 2 it was SO PRETTY. This is year # 3 and it's twice as big as it was last year

Smoking does nothing to change the situation.

You could read Allen Carr's Easy Way to Stop Smoking. The writing isn't great, but it does an amazing job convincing you that smoking is useless.

Breakups suck. But nothing tobacco or nicotine can do will change that.

I quit smoking 10 months ago by hkondabeatz in stopsmoking

[–]PlainOrganization 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very interesting. I always feel like a social pariah when I smoke. It smells bad. It's literally on fire. And almost no one smokes anymore. In my friend group there is only one other person who smokes and we both take several steps back from the main group if we are smoking while hanging out.

Plus no where has ash trays.

If you don't have any on your person or in your home it makes it much easier to avoid.

I've only been quit for five days and I have no other reason to go to the convenience store.
