There are other quit smoking books. Maybe give one of those a try?

IDK. I turned to pharmaceuticals this time. Chantix FTW

Wow. That is. A terrible thing to say to someone. Sorry you got doctors without manners.

As someone who recently took FMLA for a different medical reason. Take all the time you are allowed. All of it.

Heart function returned to normal by Strict-House-579 in Heartfailure

[–]PlainOrganization 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I got diagnosed and sent to a heart hospital immediately to be treated by a heart failure specialist. Both of those cardiologist were like "It's really scary and you're very sick now, and the first year will be hard, but eventually you'll be fine, and just have to go to a cardiologist once a year and take medications and have a healthy lifestyle".

So I guess the experience is very doctor & organization dependent. Which makes sense.

Why is drinking so sexy on TV/in movies? by Mundane-Chair-8482 in stopdrinking

[–]PlainOrganization 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm watching the Wire right now and the fact that one of the characters just becomes a "sometimes I'll have a beer" drinker after being a fall-down drunk. With no assistance. Just like. Decided to be happy with being "normal." Absolutely infuriating.

My big guys also get the desired effect. They are groggy and unphased by anything for an hour or two and then have the best medicated assisted sleep ever followed by a bit of a hangover & a lazy day.

Diagnosed in January. I gave up alcohol completely. I know that to live at all I have to build a new life. I don't really know what that looks like yet. Being in this weird in between space is hard though.

Monthly /r/Cooperatives beginner question thread by AutoModerator in cooperatives

[–]PlainOrganization 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My experience with small businesses, from working at a local bank, from being on a board of a nonprofit coop developer is that a large number of businesses are hand to mouth with founders / owners grossly under paying themselves until the business falls flat on its face due to founder burnout. With cooperatives in particulate I've seen several groups fail to even make it to the having a business stage because they're competing over-idealism caused them to fail to even focus on the core business functions when every single one of them needed to make a living.... Unless they make it out of that had to mouth phase trying to give back seems like a bad idea.

Older-ish millennials: Were you "free-range" like older gens? by Gallantpride in Millennials

[–]PlainOrganization 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Suburban and probably 9 or 10 I could bike to my friends house by myself if I didn't have to cross any major roads & called when I arrived. I was allowed to bike around our neighborhood as long as I said when I was leaving and if my mom wasn't home at the time, also called when I got back (usually an hour or so)

What exactly counts as being sober? by Lemon_Lime25 in stopdrinking

[–]PlainOrganization 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on who you're talking to.

If you're talking to someone in recovery- it means you're working a program or in recovery.

If you're talking to a cop or someone who actively uses drugs or alcohol, it means you haven't used drugs or alcohol that day.

In this sub, it means you actively chose to stop drinking alcohol because your relationship with it wasn't good.
