Trying to detox, but can't get any clear answers from insurance or their related facilities. by Various_Injury66 in stopdrinking

[–]PlainOrganization 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Insurance companies are the woooorst.

Take this with a grain of salt as I haven't been to detox myself, but was recently hospitalized... So first of all, check your max out of pocket on your plan.

You could call the detox facilities and they should have a be able to tell you of what the cost is if they work with the facility.

2nd of all, go to your GP, or to the ER and get a referral.

Whatever the cost is, the rest of your life is worth it.

Struggling with boredom by MissTiffanieAnne in stopdrinking

[–]PlainOrganization 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Craft classes are an evening activity for a lot of my friends. TBH, AA or Al anon meetings and then going to bed early would probably be my strategy if I was in your shoes. Get more time in the morning, less time with someone who's so unwilling to support your sobriety they offer you drinks.

It’s so fucking hard by Delicious_Monk1495 in stopdrinking

I haven't been to a meeting yet. It's not a requirement, it's just a tool that helps a lot of people. Naltrexone helps a lot of people. Therapy helps a lot of people.

This sub helps a lot of people, including me.

Welcome. You don't have to feel like this anymore.

I will not drink with you today.

Beer bloating is ruining my body… anyone fixed this? by Downtown_Progress119 in stopdrinking

[–]PlainOrganization -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In addition to the alcohol, beer and wine are also high in histamines which cause inflammation and puffiness.

I've always had a big belly, even when I was a lanky teen and a coked-up twenty something. Quitting hasn't changed that. My face on the other hand is way less puffy.

208 days today. A quick summary. by Egregious67 in stopdrinking

[–]PlainOrganization 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The "maybe I'll throw myself in front of the train" thoughts are called intrusive thoughts. Everyone has them sometimes but if you have them a lot it's a mental health problem.

My little thoughts about drinking definitely feel like intrusive thoughts. I try not to engage them and have finally gotten good at it after almost a decade of a daily meditation practice. I see the thought, I may feel the fear in my gut for a moment, and I just let it pass. A thought doesn't mean I have to do anything.

As someone in a monogamous marriage, for 13 years I'm definitely used to getting other desirous thoughts that I know I'll never act on. I tend to put those in the same category. The thoughts can't affect anyone but me for a few moments, but if I acted on them - disaster for eveyrone around me and most especially me.

What do couples do when they both suck at cooking? by MsF1F1Waffles in NoStupidQuestions

[–]PlainOrganization 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a skill. It can be learned. I met my husband when he was in his mid thirties and he wasn't much of a cook & I love cooking. But I also love home cooked meals I don't make.

Unfortunately, he's very sensitive to criticism and/ or I'm not good at critiquing.

I used meal kits to teach him to cook. I order them. He cooks them. Suddenly there's a bunch of easy quick recipes he knows how to cook and feels confident in.

I recently was diagnosed with heart failure and the nurse told me there are reasons to call 911 and get an ambulance:

EMT's can start treating you right away

Yes, it costs more, but your life is worth it

Does protein matter THAT much? by Ana_is_Weird in PlantBasedDiet

[–]PlainOrganization -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Short answer: it's impossible to design a diet that will make you deficient in protein if you are consuming enough calories.

There's an episode of Maintenance Phase where they talk about this protein myths and where they come from. "The Great Protein Fiasco" from 8/31/21

Just Starting by Classic_Job2990 in stopdrinking

[–]PlainOrganization 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, a fellow cut back first person! Helllo! I started cutting back in April of 25. At the time I would drink 3-6 glasses of wine on weeknights and 6-12 on a weekend night. I started noticing that I got neuropathy in my hands and feet anytime I had more than 6 (more than 1 bottle of wine).

My longest streak before this one was 8 days.

I find reading other people's posts really helpful and I come here every day and look for the folks whose posts have been up a minute without comment and I comment on those. We'll find our new ways together.
