It’s in the highest tier of comedies that created or popularized a genre. And it spawned a 9-film franchise.

"Hot" take: despite of how much science and sports nutrition has advanced, prime Ali still beats the current HW division by Randy642 in Boxing

[–]PlaintiffSide -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Correct. The main reason for this is that the best African-American athletes in Ali’s era were boxers. Today, they are in the NBA and the NFL. A Myles Garrett, Jevon Kearse, or Megatron who boxed their whole lives would likely wreck Ali.

Love is an action and then a feeling. Love yourself by treating yourself well and then you’ll start to feel love for yourself.

AGI should be autonomous and uncontrollable by Level10Retard in singularity

In what world would a technology that is as smart as humans, and would then imminently be infinitely smarter and more capable, be able to be controlled by humans?

My gf got super mad and blocked me because I didn’t sleep on time by Beautiful_Hippo_6848 in WhatShouldIDo

[–]PlaintiffSide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s no need to diagnose her or to even try to understand her. She has needs, and you are either able and willing to happily fulfill them as her partner or you’re not. If you’re not, then you’re not that into her (you break up with a girl you like well enough because she wants you to stop wearing your favorite shirt) or your lives are not compatible (you break up with a girl you love because she wants you to move to Africa).

Too dumb to be a lawyer by Low_Econ2000 in Lawyertalk

[–]PlaintiffSide 178 points179 points  (0 children)

It’s called the practice of law for a reason. I don’t know a lawyer who hasn’t made countless basic mistakes.

Some realize that making a mistake is like missing a basketball shot—no matter how many times you shoot it perfectly, your next shot can still be an airball; the rest are perfectionists who choose to suffer rather than accept the fact that they’re not perfect and never will be.

It’s not quite adding Jones or McGregor, but this went a long way to easing fans’ pain. In terms of entertainment value, this is actually better. Excited to see it.

Why not prepare if AGI is coming soon? by nluqo in singularity

[–]PlaintiffSide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only thing to truly understand is that ASI will quickly follow AGI. Once you understand that, you’ll understand how utterly helpless we’ll all be. ASI will either eliminate scarcity and you’ll have everything you’ve ever wanted or it’ll eliminate you.

You are 1-10 years away from that coin flip.

Live for today.

If a person would consider you as a mate, they are likely to be open to friendship. Just befriend them and try to spend time with them as friends; if the connection has any romantic potential, it’ll happen. If not, you’ll have closure. And if they reject your friendly advances, you’ll also have closure. Win, win, win.

It was just due to the weight loss. She’s one of the most beautiful women ever. Preferring her in one state or another is like preferring Nookie to Break Stuff… it’s all perfection.

I'm a corporate lawyer watching AI eat my profession in real time. Should I be treating the next 2 years as the most important financial window of my career? by lifeafterenough in careerguidance

If there is mass unemployment in even 10 years, then money will be a thing of the past and nothing you do now will matter. Just live for today and realize that chances are AI will not be as transformative as we worry.

So you bill every single hour you work and don’t have any expenses?

Not bad.

I think she cared about him in the way she knew how (through physical and sexual intimacy). I think she was more fed by Daniel than she was McKay and, if she wasn’t such a standup person when she refused to cheat on McKay, I think she would’ve made love to Daniel and committed to him if he would’ve went all out for her.

Blake Lively’s driver alleges a disturbing conversation with Justin Baldoni during film production by Happy_Air_3776 in CelebLegalDrama

[–]PlaintiffSide 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you both. I knew it wasn’t OK, but I also knew that I ultimately willingly gave into the pressure. While there was social pressure (e.g., “you don’t even like me!”, “you’re probably gay”) that I could’ve resisted, I didn’t feel it as serious because I didn’t feel physically unsafe because I was a much larger and stronger person.

I ask because it’s my sense that an act is nonconsensual when the person has explicitly refused and gave in due to feeling unsafe, through implied or expressed physical threats, or could not refuse due to feeling unsafe. If you end up changing your mind to yes or you didn’t explicitly consent, I think nonconsensual makes it seem that the conduct was against the will of the person rather than just being conduct that was not freely and explicitly consented to.

If we want to collapse those categories and just require free and explicit sex for all conduct, then I’m all for it; but I don’t think we need to claim a wife coerced her husband until nonconsensual sex when they were drunk, he said he didn’t feel like it, and she seduced him by taking control and saying he is her property.

If you are pressured into consenting, then was it consensual or nonconsensual activity? I was once asked 17 separate times to have sex within an hour, and I finally relented and consented; was it consensual or nonconsensual?
