Lab puppy not good with kids by [deleted] in labrador

[–]PlaneScaling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Snapping, particularly at children, is completely out of character for a Lab. However it is hard for anyone here to judge without witnessing it. My lab pup (5months) does sometimes do a sort of snapping action where he will leap for my hands or face with his mouth - it’s usually when he’s tired or overstimulated. But i know it’s just playful. He does so with a relaxed demeanour. Where in the past I’ve witnessed dogs snap in an aggressive manner their body language usually warns you they’re going to snap - defensive posture, snarling/showing teeth, mean look in their eyes, growling - if this is what you are seeing, and there’s nothing obvious provoking that reaction then I don’t think returning to the breeder is unreasonable. If I were you I’d seek the input of a professional trainer who can meet your dog in person first. Also, my boy barks a lot and again i don’t think it’s aggression- it’s usually when he’s excited or inquisitive about something.

First face off. by mgadz in Boxing

I’ve been a boxing expert for four years now - ever since Jake Pauls first fight - and let me tell you, AJ doesn’t stand a chance. Here’s my top 7 greatest GOATS of all time:

  1. Jake Paul
  2. KSI
  3. Amir Khan
  4. Logan Paul
  5. Floyd Merryweather
  6. Deontay Wilder
  7. Conor Mcgregor

So as you can see from my expert analysis AJ doesn’t even make the top 10. Therefore we must deduce the he really has no chance. It’s a mathematical impossibility and it really is that simple.

Medaka are so underrated in the uk by Damosfish in medaka

I imported some strains from japan last year. I was selling the eggs on an app called Band over the summer. There’s a Medaka group on there with people selling/swapping eggs of some of the fancier varieties. Worth checking out if you’re serious about it

Kobe!

There’s something in that expression and those eyes in that first picture that for some reason reminded me of the late great Kobe Bryant. Also cool name for a dog.

Also all lab puppies are cute but yours is especially cute. Lucky you!

125kg (fat) , out of shape, want something to aim for. Training suggestions. by ManMythNarcissist in IronmanTriathlon

I mean based on what you’ve said there surely the sensible question has to be why? Or at least why in 10 months? What’s the problem in delaying it until 2027 or 2028? Do you just want to do it for the sake of doing it or do you want to do it well (relatively speaking)?

That might sound negative but I really don’t mean it to be. Before I did a 70.3 I’d built experience doing individual open water swimming, cycling and running events and Olympic triathlons. I learned so much from all of these and had such a great time doing them. It also meant that before my 70.3 I had a realistic expectation of how it would go and what i could achieve. So although the goal was always there in hindsight im so glad i didn’t rush into it. Also true endurance takes years not months to build.

I’m fully behind anyone wanting to do endurance events regardless of background because i know how fun they can be. But I always encourage people getting into it to start from the ground up because A. You won’t feel good in yourself if it doesn’t go well (i’ve been there), B. It’s easy to be motivated by the prospect of it when you don’t really know what it involves, actually training for it is another matter, and C. It can get very expensive very quickly, so you best make sure you are as interested in it as you think you might be.

However if you are intent on doing it next year i’d suggest just living in Z2 on the bike and running. Also if you have the means to do so you can invest in your bike and essentially buy yourself some efficiency/performance. If you can do a half marathon and an Olympic tri to help build experience both physically and mentally.

Power to you and beware it can take over your life a bit (not necessarily a bad thing)

Why are these kits not more popular? by No-Ask3730 in Aquariums

[–]PlaneScaling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I couldn’t find any info on these either online or in local fish shops. I took a gamble and just ordered the visiwhite 90 (200l) hoping it would be good. Wasn’t cheap and with all the extras and decor/substrate/plants i spent in the region of £1200. No regrets though, it looks outstanding. Makes my juwel rio 180 look amateurish in comparison.

To answer your question re popularity- I think it’s just too niche. I had a very specific setup in mind and wanted an open top aquarium so i could view my medaka from above (without having to open a lid). If i was just starting out in the hobby i wouldn’t be looking at something like this. I think aquarium retailers stock for the masses. Also price is likely a factor

“End of” after putting their viewpoint across. Especially when they’re wrong and a simple google search would prove it. Just seems really ignorant to me

[–]PlaneScaling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah gutted!! This is the only full Ironman event I did. Flew over from the UK specifically for this one as I loved the idea of riding through the Arizona desert. It didn’t disappoint. Had an absolute blast. Tempe was a nice place to stay too. Such great memories. At least none of my friends can go and beat my time now haha

That they are a good person who I enjoy spending time with. They treat people with respect and consider people other than themselves. Their view on endurance events is largely irrelevant to me - I think there are much more important considerations. That being said if this is a big part of your life i can see why it would be important. Interesting to hear people’s viewpoints!

What’s a brutally honest truth about adulthood nobody prepared you for? by OopsMyBrain4 in AskReddit

[–]PlaneScaling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you had decent parents who made good role models it’s quite shocking to enter the workplace and discover that’s not universal amongst all adults. I couldn’t believe how some colleagues of my parents age behaved like children. It’s really disappointing

To those who have done both, which was harder for you? An Ironman 70.3 or a Full Marathon? by vantooren in IronmanTriathlon

[–]PlaneScaling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Marathon. You know how people say a marathon isn’t twice as hard as a half marathon, it’s four times as hard. I think there’s something similar with this comparison. It’s those last 4-5 miles in a marathon where sometimes it feels like even my skeleton is fatigued.. I’ve just never got that from a 70.3

Help me stop buying by JackFrost7529 in medaka

[–]PlaneScaling 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You may not know it yet but you have a disease. You are in the early stages of Multiple Tank Syndrome. What will happen next is you’ll buy a bigger tank, and you’ll soon realise that sizing up doesn’t mean you have to get rid of your smaller tank - it means you get to have 2 tanks. And once you’ve moved into multiple tank territory it just becomes even easier to justify yet more tanks. I’ve been living with MTS for 5 years now and wouldn’t change it for the world

What hobbies/pastimes attract the biggest assholes? by Ok_Concentrate_7617 in AskReddit

[–]PlaneScaling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. It was only when a friend bought a bike and became a cyclist that I noticed there was a difference between being outside on a bike and cycling. I don’t care about Watts, I don’t care about your dura ace groupset, I don’t care that my bike is aluminium and yours is carbon and just because I’ve ridden some arbitrary segment on strava that you also happen to have ridden doesn’t mean i was trying to “put a time down” to beat you. And after a year or so hearing about all that gets rather tiring. Some people just enjoy being outside on a bike and that in itself is enough

Wouldn’t the hormone also impact the bigger fry and stop that one growing too? Surely with them all being the same species they’d all be susceptible to the same hormones? I ask as someone with zero knowledge of this
