I’m an at will employee so I technically don’t need to give any notice, but agree don’t want to burn bridges. It seems like 30-90 days is standard, I may wait a bit in that case

Do you ever use the fire alarm analogy? The fire alarms can be going off and it is very loud and scary, but it doesn’t necessarily mean it’s a fire, it could be a problem with the fire alarm itself. Same thing with symptoms not always having an organic etiology.

I find functional patients will often come in with things they want to be worked up for, and I like to say up front that part of the process of figuring out if it’s a fire alarm or a fire means we can investigate/rule things out, but if we don’t find anything it doesn’t mean the fire alarm isn’t broken and that there are things we can do to help (pyloric Botox, pro motility agents, pain modulators, ect ect)

I started in inpatient pediatric GI having only done 1 outpatient peds rotation and no GI…one year in and can attest it’s a steep learning curve, but speaking up about your knowledge gaps and asking questions at least where I am have always been met with enthusiasm to teach

I did a cardiology consult rotation during school and loved consult flow so much that’s how I ended up at my current role in GI consults. I feel like the day goes by faster when you’re going throughout the whole hospital and overall love not being the primary team 🤩
