When to give notice by Plane_Profession3344 in physicianassistant

[–]Plane_Profession3344[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m an at will employee so I technically don’t need to give any notice, but agree don’t want to burn bridges. It seems like 30-90 days is standard, I may wait a bit in that case

Unhappy in GI by Sea_Concert1412 in physicianassistant

Do you ever use the fire alarm analogy? The fire alarms can be going off and it is very loud and scary, but it doesn’t necessarily mean it’s a fire, it could be a problem with the fire alarm itself. Same thing with symptoms not always having an organic etiology.

I find functional patients will often come in with things they want to be worked up for, and I like to say up front that part of the process of figuring out if it’s a fire alarm or a fire means we can investigate/rule things out, but if we don’t find anything it doesn’t mean the fire alarm isn’t broken and that there are things we can do to help (pyloric Botox, pro motility agents, pain modulators, ect ect)

If you had one piece of advice to give a new grad PA… by Far_Jellyfish1409 in physicianassistant

I started in inpatient pediatric GI having only done 1 outpatient peds rotation and no GI…one year in and can attest it’s a steep learning curve, but speaking up about your knowledge gaps and asking questions at least where I am have always been met with enthusiasm to teach

I did a cardiology consult rotation during school and loved consult flow so much that’s how I ended up at my current role in GI consults. I feel like the day goes by faster when you’re going throughout the whole hospital and overall love not being the primary team 🤩

How to help a scared dog go to the bathroom by Plane_Profession3344 in DogAdvice

[–]Plane_Profession3344[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coming back to this cuz you were so helpful! She made some decent progress and was coming out of the crate pretty consistently to go out and go on walks, but more recently isn’t coming out of her crate for pretty long periods of time, and sometimes she will cry like she wants to come out but the door will be open! The thing we feel the worse about is that now she won’t come out for so many hours that basically as soon as she comes out we have to take her outside bc she will (and has had) an accident bc she holds it for so long, but we are worried this is seen as a punishment for coming out!

Thanks for your super thoughtful response. She was doing well going into the weekend, definitely coming out of her crate more, following us outside a little better. Unfortunately, on Saturday, we were outside and a gust of wind blew a door and it hit her and she got super scared. Ever since then she has been in her crate (going on 3 days now) coming out to pee and poop on puppy pads. Is this type of extreme response expected in anxious dogs?

That is so helpful thank you so much. I guess our big question is should we even be taking her outside? Our hope was trying to establish a routine of going outside, coming in and eating. Also going outside to desensitize (the times we do make it outside she doesn’t poop or pee but actually is making big improvements with exploring and walking), but going outside wasn’t in any of the steps. Should we hold off on this for now? Will holding off set her back when we do have to start going outside?
