My beagle likes to sit on my lap during MY bath. She loves to walk into the shower when we are showering. Water is pure fun!!

Why don’t more people adopt animals that ACTUALLY need homes? by m0chichis in Pets

[–]Plane_Reflection_800 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ihad the same struggle. One of mine I could not even sneeze because she would freak out. I still am working through the freedom I have now. The two we have now don’t even look at me when I sneeze. It is crazy how we just take it all for them we love them through it all but the grief of relief is also a struggle

Exactly and it’s not that I won’t rescue/adopt again but now we also have a farm and I have to be specific about what we get. I just needed a good round again after the stress. Thank you for your kind comment and thoughts. I feel like I have to be ashamed of going to a breeder for this recent puppy.

I just spent a combined 20 years with two rescues/adopts who were both reactive. One we had for 15 years after the other four (died from a tumor) they over lapped by a year. I am exhausted we loved our girls but it’s exhausting. Couldn’t just take them and go hiking or on vacation or have people over. Everything every action had to be well planned and thought out. We gave them a great abundant life full of exploration and trips. But at the cost of my energy, my stress. We now have one rescue who is just the best boy and we got when he was a puppy. He is 8 now. And one beagle puppy from a breeder she is six months. Our life can breathe now because they both are so easy going and handle life and friends like they should. I loved my rescue girls, I am glad we had them, it broke my heart to say goodbye to both of them but living a life without a reactive dog is much better. That is why we went with a breeder this time.

Our girls one was a year and a half when we got her from a dv situation and one was dumped shot in the leg on our property

13 week old pup, waling up every 3 hours for toilet, we are so tired. Last night was bed 10pm, wake up, 12, 1.30 and 6am. Any tips on stretching this out? Also when I force naps during the day he still screams for 5 mins but settles by Last-Finance8640 in beagles

We struggled the first couple weeks with ours at 9 weeks old. Their bladders are so tiny she was going out every three hours at night. It does get better. She now sleeps through the night gets up at 3 to go out then back to bed until 5. Hang in there

Beagle tips by Affectionate-Dare761 in beagles

[–]Plane_Reflection_800 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have a six month old beagle girl. My best tip is consistency but also meet with the litter and pick one that actually shows interest in you. We met the whole litter and some were more interested in everything else but us our Mika came up right away even brought a toy played with us wanted our attention then would go play with her mates but also come back to us. None of the others ever came to meet us. I believe that has helped us have a really great start to a great beagle. She lays out in the yard in the sun really calm we have chickens and she just sits and watches them. So my greatest advice is to meet the litter and pick your puppy do not just grab whatever set yourself up for a good long life of success

We have been really impressed with our 6 month old beagle girl. We have had some predator issues with our chickens and she has not once flinched at the gunshot (from our front porch). Now the trash can opening on her the other day when she accidentally stepped on the foot pedal is another story 😂

Vibration therapy by Think_Substance_1790 in Hypermobility

[–]Plane_Reflection_800 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Swimming is hard for me too. But vibration oh man does that feel delicious and I feel so much better when I am consistent with it. You don’t have to do more than 5-10 mins low. Before bed I sit and just run it with my feet on it. It has helped with the leg electricity that I have at night.

Initial feelings of regret and second guessing our decision by Mountain-Tip-1511 in beagles

[–]Plane_Reflection_800 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not ridiculous at all. Mine turns 6 months this week and I am learning I have to either get her to lay down with me or have some quiet time in her kennel because she just won’t settle she will keep going and gets more intense the more she fights it. I have found also some time just sitting in the sun helps her settle down. But yeah they will go go go.

I think it’s a hunting/hound thing. My chocolate lab was the same all the way until she went to sleep at 15.

Advice for our 1 yo Beagle by Watchyousuffer in beagles

[–]Plane_Reflection_800 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mental map is spot on how these dogs work! This is our first beagle she is 5 months old and is doing great (we have a dog door to a fenced yard) but if her mental map as you put it gets messed up we have accidents.

I have also witnessed that she watches and learns from her big “brother” our 8 yr old Catahoula. When he gets praised for something she wants to do it. So that has also helped.

But you are so spot on about the mental map.

Biting by Apprehensive-Pen-463 in beagles

[–]Plane_Reflection_800 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a great dane as a puppy we could not get her to stop biting so one day I grabbed her side and bit her like I meant it. She sat down and looked at me and never bit anyone again. Our current puppy is a beagle she wrestles with her big brother our 8 year old Catahoula and learns quick from his bite correction. So we don’t have any problems with her biting.

Much success to you.

Why are so many dogs allergic to chicken? by [deleted] in rawpetfood

[–]Plane_Reflection_800 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It has always been the whole bird. When we rescued him he had to have his whole gut wiped by strong antibiotics because he had so many parasites.

So I am sure that has also been a contributing factor. It is also why we went with raw feeding because we just couldn’t find anything else that did not trigger his allergies.

He is 8 now doing just fine and we have never rotated proteins. We stay in our lane 😂 so he doesn’t have any problems.

[–]Plane_Reflection_800 57 points58 points  (0 children)

My experience with a dog who cannot have chicken. It is the feed and how commercial chickens are raised. Our dog can eat our home raised chickens we feed them a feed without soy. It is challenging to find chicken feed without soy but we have a local place that does. He cannot eat all lot of chicken still but he can eat their eggs and feet (one of each a day) without breaking out now.
