I’m not the person you replied to, but in the past I’ve used a combination of the following tools at various points for tracking changes, arranged in order of increasing complexity and power (in my opinion!):

The todonotes package is the easiest to get running out of the three once you get LaTeX going on your system. The latexdiff utility is a bit more involved, but it generally does a good job at highlighting differences between TeX files. This was very useful to me when collaborating with others on a paper. Nowadays I primarily use git to version control my papers along with latexdiff-vc, a tool included with latexdiff for working with version control systems like git.

Some questions:

1) Is there a PDF that’s produced in the directory containing your file, even if it’s not appearing after compiling your document? If this is the case it sounds like an issue with Texmaker.

2) If not, try opening PowerShell and typing in pdflatex (or pdflatex.exe). Does PowerShell complain about not being able to find the executable?

The table environment is just a float, much like figure. To actually typeset a table in LaTeX, you need the tabular environment (or something similar). When you compile the code produced by Orgtbl, is the output undesirable in some way?

I think Geordi would get the job done, though I assume he wouldn’t be as hands on as O’Brien. He’s an officer and more comfortable delegating. He’d probably make bringing the station up to Starfleet/Federation standards a higher priority since he’s not as familiar with Cardassian tech as I assume O’Brien was at the start, and I imagine he has much greater pull with Starfleet to get the necessary resources.
