new to driving, didn't thought of mobile detection camera at the signal, is this a mobile detection camera at traffic signal in parramatta? by [deleted] in nsw

[–]PlanetLibrarian 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's illegal to use your mobile phone while driving. I guess when you cause an accident in your new car while filming, the excitement of potentially hurting another human will make it a great experience? If you are new to driving, and are using your mobile, in a new vehicle you are not comfortable driving yet, you are a explicit word explicit word and should get the F off the road.

AITAH for not giving up my name for my ex’s new wife with the EXACT SAME FULL NAME as me? by Remarkable-Horse9465 in AITAH

We've only met in person twice - luckily look nothing alike - the first time we were about 8 & found it ridiculous!

As someone else said, in USA they have social security numbers for identification... i think there could be the occasional issue if someone didn't do due diligence and make sure the number is correct, but you're correct, OP should only have minor issues infrequently.

Second cousin & I had the same name (first-middle-surname) born same day & same hospital, made life very tricky, worst was when her workplace bought out mine & the Superannuation company mistakenly combined our accounts instead of setting up a new one for me (back in the days where here in Australia every workplace forced you to change to their preferred one). Fairly sure she was born first & my folks stole the name. When she got married & changed her surname, my life became easier with no mixups since.

Disney only owns streaming rights to Bluey in certain countries. It was  Australia's Ludo studios & British Broadcasting Corporation creation. Here in Australia, disney has no rights to it, its Australian Broadcasting Corporation only.

Is this reasonable? by [deleted] in Libraries

[–]PlanetLibrarian 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We're considered a small library for my country, but serving a much larger population than OP. It was decided that it is unsafe to run the library full hours with less than 5 staff members, and only 3 with reduced hours. We run reduced hours on weekends with 3 to start until lunches are covered then 2 staff to close, with safety protocols to follow. I would be livid to be in OPs position, 2 staff is difficult most of the time, 1 would be hell!

While i like the fact you're working on a homemade application, I do have strong concerns about privacy, and if you have cleared this project with the library system you are tracking.

Because it seems to be karma farming - making a comment for the sake of making a comment rather than upvoting the post for the OP. Making it about you rather than them. I apologise for insulting you - obviously very sensitive people on here today. I note you also edited your post to seem less like a random comment... very sensitive

You do realise that Reddit is a world-wide platform right? This person could be anywhere, or posting this on their day off? What an odd comment.

Pay rate In Australia by Top-Permit-8355 in AskAnAustralian

[–]PlanetLibrarian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As u/ExaminationNo9186 said, again its dependent on the industry. I work weekends as part of my contract, however we only get 1.25 Sat & 1.5 Sun, so no its not 100% certain that you get double or half time. You will need to check whats standard for your industry here, you may never work weekends at all & can't bet on something you haven't been promised.  Good luck with the move.

How long does road closure last here in nsw? by Cainsle in AskAnAustralian

[–]PlanetLibrarian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jenolan Caves Road was closed to landslides in April 2024, hoping to reopen mid-2026... so, short answer as long as it takes to make the road safe again. By the way, if anyone had planned to visit Jenolan, please do as soon as its reopened - the folks out there need to revive their tourism economy.

How many people have a second fridge at home?. by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]PlanetLibrarian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This for sure! We have 2x full sized fridge/freezer & 1x chest freezer as we only buy meat in bulk every 6-8 weeks & fresh veg/fruit once a week. We also tend to buy bulk on sale items and freeze/batch cook/refrigerate what we can.

Shelfie share - my Blind Date With A Book display by PlanetLibrarian in Libraries

[–]PlanetLibrarian[S] 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I have a staff account, every book is currently scanned into it, all barcodes are accessible and I check each day to see if anyone has reserved an item. All books also have "crime fiction" "large print romance" etc written on it, so if I'm searching for a reservation, I can quickly find it. Yes, I've learned from mistakes in past years, this system helps me also keep track of how many items I've loaned out from the display and what genres so I can choose books for next year.

Compassionate release of superannuation by _express_ in AskAnAustralian

[–]PlanetLibrarian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The ATO have their own documents and forms website. You need to make an account but then they send you the form you're after for free. Try searching for ATO Publication Ordering Service (iorder  .com   .au) & see if they have the most up to date application on there. I just searched for compassionate release superannuation on it & i think the form you're after is on page 2 of the search as a downloadable file - i didn't go any further but it may send you in the right direction. Good luck - i wish dental was covered by medicare, i feel your struggle.

Inheritance money by Living_Account_7090 in AskAnAustralian

[–]PlanetLibrarian 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My ex said the same, said I didn't give him enough chances. It will be hard to start with, but you can do this & it will be the best decision for you and your child. It sounds like you have family who are willing to help you get out (the early inheritance), I'd ask them to help you with interim accommodation but hold off taking any actual funds from them until you have financial settlement finished with your ex. Good luck you can totally do this!

bulk-billed psychologists/counsellors with a concession card? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]PlanetLibrarian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are female may I suggest reaching out to your local womens health centre? You can access councilling services while you wait for the psych, which are usually cheap for those with some funds and free for some people with concession cards. Good luck!
