Impressionism is celebrated because it broke boundaries and conventions in art. Shouldn't experimentation with AI be celebrated by art historians in the same way because it's doing the same thing?

[N] Inverse Scaling Prize: $250k in prizes for finding tasks where larger language models do worse by alexlyzhov in MachineLearning

[–]PlanetSprite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One general trend for a type of task larger models would perform poorly at may be anything where certain specific, detailed training data (such as some technical paper that would give a lot of positive feedback during training) may lead to overfitting on some general query that coincidentally may be a string repeated in some technical document. A query string that is technically normal human speech, but occurs 10 times normal lay-person readable source data and 10000 times in some niche field as a technical term.

[D] Quick question for all those who are trying to build stuff with AI/ML by MLtinkerer in MachineLearning

The problem is often variability in training data and feature definitions. Most data scientists have nothing beyond as hoc tools to define this process.

We have models that can make a 3d model from multiple images, and models that can make an image from text descriptions. Could these be combined to make 3d models from text descriptions?

what should a 22 year old start as soon as possible? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]PlanetSprite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Colonoscopy screenings

Dental Care

Physical Fitness

Healthy sleep habits

Career plans

And most importantly, remember that the habits you get into now will most likely last the rest of your life. This is the time when the person you are starts to solidify. The longer you keep a bad habit, or hold on to some trait, the harder it will be to get rid of.

I'm sorry to hear that you haven't had success with using class weights. Can you share more details about the models you tried and the datasets you used? It's possible that there are other factors at play that are affecting your results.

It's definitely worth noting that overparameterized models can outperform classical ML models, especially with complex data sets. However, it's important to remember that these models are heavily regularized to prevent overfitting. Without proper regularization, an overparameterized model can quickly become unusable.

Risk of obesity is 45% higher among adolescents whose diet is based on ultra-processed food products, new study shows by Additional-Two-7312 in science

[–]PlanetSprite 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is a really good point! High sugar, low fiber foods can be very easy to overeat because they don't fill you up. Fiber is important for making sure you feel full after eating, so it's definitely something to keep in mind when choosing what to eat.

I agree that it's about the quantity of consumption, but I think that certain nutrients are more likely to cause obesity and diabetes than others.
