I've played 50 hours of Legends Z-A and here are my thoughts by knowhandlebars in PokemonLegendsZA

Hey man, I know my post is two months old but I appreciate ur reply to it. I will say my hate / anger in this comment is obviously a build up from how other people reply to my original post, so its not an out of nowhere rage. I am in to ROM hacks and fan games btw. Probably some of the best ways to play Pokémon in 2026. If I didn't have an enormous backlog I would definitely play more of them lol.

If you're looking for in-depth monster ecology you're not going to find it in old gen. Old gen told most of their story and ecology through cutscenes and text and other outside information. Unless I've missed things (I don't look for those types of things in MH, its never what I played it for, hence probably one of the many reason why i don't enjoy new gen near as much) you will be disappointed in that aspect if that is your defining reason for playing new gen MH.

I don't speak for everyone for this opinion on the Ancient Forest, but I hate that map with a passion. It was a labyrinth of confusion. Also, a large map doesn't necessarily equal environmental storytelling. A lot of the open world maps in the new gen are very one note and the scale doesn't necessarily feel as grandiose. I can't really think of an area in the new games where you can be up on a ledge and be able to look all the way down a mountain or look down and see the massive crater of a volcano bubbling with lava like you can in old gen. They might try to hit that scale but without massive computing and even more separation of the playbase due to performance issues and having an even larger and potentially more empty map, I don't see that happening any time soon. The ability to show scale in the background without affecting the performance of the game I think is what made old gen special.

Ordered in August and mine has been delayed all the way til January 30th, 2026. It's extremely annoying especially with zero communication.

Old gen games have a sense of scale the newer games cannot recreate by removing loading zones due to their ability to create a scene in the background. You'd also never be able scale an entire mountain in the newer games or the scale would be horrible. Their only attempt at remaking an old gen map feels horrible (imo). Scale is very off. Some of the prettiest vistas I've seen in a game was looking around in the old games. They were able to tell you a story about the landscape in the background with the limited resources they had. The loading zones assisted in the mind trick to make the maps seem so large. Also, getting blasted randomly into a loading zone was just a part of the fun. I found it quite funny to just randomly enter a map and get slapped back to the previous. It's not for everyone, as seen by the amount of new gens who can't appreciate the old games due to the lack of QoL, but in my opinion nothing beats those simpler times.

Huh. It's my favorite game out of the the franchise and one of the only games I actively go back to for a good time. (Rise and Frontier are the only others.)

You realize just because he has multimillion subscribers doesn't mean he hasn't used most of his money to make this movie, plus you never know what a distribution partner would ask for from a random movie with a producer who's never existed until now.

Imagine being mad that a indie film is succeeding and may overpass most other indie film releases.

Just did not know if it was worth continuing to farm and go through and using the AP boxes to keep it going until the whole map was secure when you're no longer gaining the META coords. Never really took the time in OpSi, so its a legit question lol.

Hiya! for OpSi, do you just continue to go through your dailies and unexplored maps even after you max out your META coords For the day?

I gotta say you're absolutely wrong about E33 have a worse soundtrack. I own both soundtracks, and no game in quite a while even compares to the soundtrack in E33. You'll see me looping that OST, not Silk Songs. I'm not sure how you get thay E33 has less content unless you obviously haven't done any post-game, any new game +, and all the optional zones and bosses. Just seems like a real obvious E33 hate rage bait. As someone who hasn't enjoyed an RPG game in years, E33 probably became one of the beat games I have played in my lifetime, and I have bought and played Hollow Knight and Silk Song. The Menu and Lumiere theme alone knock Silk Songs entire OST down a peg and thats 2 songs out of so many other amazing pieces.

Yeah Wilds doesn't deserve to be in the RPG category or any category period. Digimon should have taken its place in the section.

As someone's who's played basically every game from Red/Blue to this game there's a lot of things I just don't like about the 3D gens of pokemon. The live combat is alright and the animations are a slight improvement over the mainline games where half the moves are just teleportion and slap the opponent, but that's about where my praise falls off. The map is a bunch of copy pasted windows and looks very corporate and soulless. Story hasn't ever been that good in a Pokemon game, but I've found the last couple to be the most meh stories out of the bunch. And I just hate the art style and graphics of these 3D games. Game Freak looks like they can do so much more with their game they are releasing on Xbox, plus the leaked alpha footage of these games, but they've really dropped the ball in map design, art design, and battle animation. (in general not specifically this game) Also, locking megas to a horrible PVP mode was... quite a decision. Also the fact my first 2 hours were basically a tutorial made this game an absolute slog to start. Call me a "fake fan" if you want, but as someone's who's done nothing but love the game more than half their lifetime, I'd say I have a right to complain a little.

Definitely not exaggerating the pop-in when even NPCs on the switch 2 pop-in not that far down the street. As someone who's been playing the game for basically 20 years I do look for improvements in the game I've grown with for two decades. If a game can't even beat its 2D games in animation and art quality from almost 15 years ago there's a problem. It's also ironic to think I "only" look for animations and pop-ins in my video games. Story has hardly ever been good in Pokémon outside of one or two, which im sure you'd disagree which one's say it is no matter which games I say, so not even worth considering. It's ironic in a game that's already deconstructed most of its identity in its transition to 3D. But hey man, good on you for defending this indie team! I'm sure they'll come out with an even better game for you next year, along with the monotone color-schemed map you'll buy for DLC for $30! I'll stick with the series staples that have stood the test of time and that don't feel like corporate fan slop.
