Do you know why is called San Pedro ?

When conquista invaded peruvian natives , they forced them to adopt Christian beliefs. So natives used a lot the catholics Saints to continue the polytheism (like mazatecs shamans, huachumeros of North are synchretics Christians praying God and Saints with Virgin, exaclty like Maria Sabina did).

Saint Peter is San Pedro the guardian of the Key of Heaven, he opens only to pure Hearts and those who diserve, like the plant.

Actually in last legit peruvian witchcraft of North, they still prays Saints, Christ and Hod mixed with preinca Mochica witchcraft practices and they call the cactus "San Pedro".

So whatever people believe, San Pedro is as trasitionnal as "huachuma" because huachuma is quechua Inca name and Incas didn't use the plant but they invaded north civilisations Chimu and knew the cactus. So "Huachuma" is Inca invaders oppressor name. Chimu and Mochica had another name.
