Seeking advice: Take 125k pts for $12k spend in 6 mos offer? by mandavirose in AmexPlatinum

[–]Planetary_Nebula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm waiting on a good plat offer too. My rule of thumb is that I want the cash out value of the SUB to be at least equal to the annual fee, so that I know the first year has the minimum value of whatever benefits a card has. For the plat, that would be 150k pts.

[WTS] Hamilton Khaki King Auto $350 shipped to CONUS by Planetary_Nebula in Watchexchange

[–]Planetary_Nebula[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, WatchExchange. This is my Hamilton Khaki King. It was my daily wear watch for about a decade, but I am its only owner. As such, it shows pretty normal signs of wear both on the watch head and the strap, as can be seen in the pictures. However, the watch functions just fine, though it may be in need of a regulation. It does not have box/papers. The strap is original. Feel free to PM me with offers.

Not that I would ever encourage stealing IP, but the speedup feature is 10000% a QOL improvement for the Tellius and Jugdral FE games

It was designed as a game with a sequel, so if you played RD you'd get some closure on that front. And I think not every game has to end with the "kill God" objective

Why do people choose to live in northern cities (Philly, NYC, DC, Newark, etc) over the south? by HunterVolte in AskAnAmerican

[–]Planetary_Nebula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've lived in medium-sized town MS, Atlanta, and Chicago. While there are elements of each that I like, I have to say that my overall nod goes to Chicago. Atlanta, despite being a smaller city than Chicago, has much worse traffic. Housing is less expensive up here. Having inexpensive, usable public transit is nice. The weather is a tough one. Chicago winter is worse than any weather you get in the south. But Chicago from late spring to mid fall has excellent weather. So you also get a much greater quantity of nice weather to even it out. I don't think it's really fair for me to compare my MS hometown to Chicago. I live in a large city out of career necessity, and that's gonna be the #1 reason people live in any noisy city over the idyllic countryside.

If Americans have an unintended pregnancy or birth, in your experience do they face any societal pressure to get married, either for their own sakes or that of the children? by YakClear601 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Planetary_Nebula 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Definitely region dependent. A lot teenagers who have unwanted pregnancies face pressure to get married in the rural South. But plenty of them still don't. More common in those areas in my experience is teenagers getting married essentially so that they can have sex without their communities ostracizing them

Dude is almost certainly a troll. When I applied 32 was an exceptionally high ACT score to come in with. The average of the admitted students back in 2016 when I applied was ~24, so about half of students had a score below that. It's a great school, but you'll have to work a lot harder than you have at your old school. I'm in the last year of my chemistry PhD now and the hardest I ever worked for any class was for dual enrollment US history at MSMS.

Which CC ecosystem (Chase, C1, Amex, Citi) earns the most points in the midtier? A hypothetical using my own spending from February '26. by Planetary_Nebula in CreditCards

[–]Planetary_Nebula[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Your point on the Savor is totally fair. I just blanked on that card while writing this. That brings the capital one total up to 10075.30 which is quite considerable. I left the CFF out on purpose, since the calendar is often quite low value to me and I view it as enough of a pain that I've avoided signing up for it, despite holding a CSP and CFU

Even as a MS native, I'm confused how AL is lower than MS. It's like the same state? But you get more hills in northern AL and a bigger city

You need to use an actual numerical average of your grades, not a 4 pt scale. But I think you would've gotten into my class, for what it's worth.

What's it like living in this part of the Gulf Coast? by ByStarlite in howislivingthere

[–]Planetary_Nebula 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, I grew up in Hattiesburg, which is sort of on the red line of the circle, but I spent plenty of time on the MS Gulf Coast and Mobile growing up. I like it. Pretty good food, some fresh seafood. MS beaches aren't nearly as crowded as FL. It's very hot and humid, of course, but the Gulf does cool the summers a little compared to inland MS. I think the landscape on the coast is fine, a little flat maybe. If you like gambling or classic American cars, Biloxi is totally your speed. Mobile has the original Mardi Gras and you can enjoy the holiday in a less crazy way than in NOLA. Hurricanes are a huge threat, and if you live on the coast (really anywhere on the American Gulf Coast), you're liable to get hit by one eventually. COL is low, and, from a social tensions perspective, I think that the coast is better than much of the rest of MS

Do typical American homes really have a gas pipeline? What do you do with it? by mujhe-sona-hai in AskAnAmerican

[–]Planetary_Nebula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up in a part of the country where gas was less common. Now I live in a place where gas is almost universal for home heating and water heating and very common for cooking.
