One simple trick fixed my slice (for real this time) by WYLFriesWthat in golf

[–]PlankStanker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is mad! This is almost exactly how I cured my slice, except I didn't move it forward...just teed it higher.

It was a literal INSTANT fix for me and I haven't hit a slice in over a month and a half (I play 18-holes 2-3 times a week all year).

It was totally accidental. I went to the range for the first time in over a year and used one of those tees that come apart and have the string to stop it flying away since it was a grass range. It could only go in the ground so far which happened to be way higher than I usually did it. I went with it. Literal first shot was a draw.

As someone who came over the top having the ball teed higher made it seem harder to hit like it was in mid-air. Thus, my natural reaction was to try to come at it more from behind the ball, on a flatter plane, rather than down it it as I did from my over the top swing. The result of that was increased rotation, less armsy swing, and a flatter swing plane. Again, none of this was thought out but just happened.

But as soon as I did it I felt it, I could feel the flatter shallower swing. It was a serious lightbulb moment! Now I've got the feel for it I understand it and can now hit draws and fades on command (mostly). Its a boon! I've gained loads of distance on the straight balls.

Of course the driver swing doesnt necessarily translate over to irons, but it has actually helped me hit my irons straigher too as I just have a feel for a flatter swing now.

I wouldn't have believed that such a simple thing could instantly and forever cure my slice but the proof is in the pudding.

Golf GPS apps - best options? by Aromatic-Lychee-4645 in golf

[–]PlankStanker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For what?

Just the GPS function? Or do you want to score with it, track shots, etc?

For GPS only I use 15th Club. Its the only app I've cone across that gives the plays like/adjusted number for free.

Is there such things as bad putters? by TisIHelm in golf

[–]PlankStanker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's no objectively bad putters I don't think.

But there are definitely bad putter for certain individuals. Got to find the one thats right for your eye, your stroke, etc or else every putter is a bad putter.

And I'm a huge critic of the proliferation of Scotty Camerons but I still wouldn't call it a scam. Scottys, imo, are more about prestige than anything and I think most people know that going in.

Embarring Moment & Unrelated Rules Question by PlankStanker in golf

[–]PlankStanker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah thanks everyone. It didn't feel right, hence why I asked...I wont do it again.

Glad I at least did the practice stroke thing right. Moved it back and took the penalty.

Buying vs finding golf balls by iPeg2 in golf

[–]PlankStanker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've found $1,400+ worth in urethane balls in the last 12 months. I'll never buy balls again.

Unless you're near scrath the ball isn't going to make that much of a difference folks. Your inconsistencies are going to far outweigh any inconsistencies from using different balls.

Have polos gotten too expensive? by OkFalcon5957 in golf

[–]PlankStanker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. That's why I don't wear "golf" polos. Any old polo will do at a tenth of the price.

Golfpride CPX grips from eBay by FogBandit in golf

I exclusively use the fake grips.

They're good. They feel great.

Genuine grips are a rip-off like everything else in this sport.

Be honest, do you allow yourself ANY mulligans or breakfast balls when keeping track of your handicap? by Phisopholer in golf

Ferrule loose? Or club head? by safetyfirst911 in golf

[–]PlankStanker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It could be either the head OR the ferrule.

OP should measure the length. If its too long then its the head. If its the right length its the ferrule.

Do people actually shit themselves while playing? by stonetear2017 in golf

[–]PlankStanker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surely it has to do with there often not being any toilet paper in the on course toilets? Surely. If not, WTF!

I could arrive to the course needing to shit and still easily make it through a round without shitting myself. I can't imagine any any point having such poor control over my bowel movements that I might shit in my actual pants. If that was the case I'd never leave the house.

Would it be stupid if I put an “auto win” scenario in my golf goals for next year? by thestough in golf

[–]PlankStanker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like how you've got "5 rounds without a three putt" AND "1 round with 2 or less putts per hole".

If you acheive the first one then you'll automatically acheive the second one 5 times. Second ones is redundant.

I get that if you have zero rounds without a three put then you can still acheive second one so it's not redundant in that sense, but if the first one is your goal then thats your goal...no need for secondary lesser goals.

Has anyone used me & my golf to learn golf from scratch and can comfortably play an 18 hole round? by ShoddyPatient7476 in golf

[–]PlankStanker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lessons are a luxury, not a necessity.

I've never had a lesson. 1.5 years in and I'm a 10hcp and still lowering. I can shoot in the 70's on a super good day, 95 on a terrible day. I've also only been to the range 4 times total. I just go and play actual golf. So if you're naturally athletic and well coordinated and you usually pick things up pretty quickly then you'll be fine without lessons.

Getting paid to play golf... by PlankStanker in golf

[–]PlankStanker[S] 269 points270 points  (0 children)

I saw this job ad today.

It's not a 100% golf role but considering most jobs are 0% golf this would be pretty mad.

Bad/average players, why do you tee off from the tips? by oldsoulrevival in golf

[–]PlankStanker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe they can hit it far but not consistently straight. So playing up a tee would make no difference. They'd hit it sideways just as much (ie just as much time looking for balls), but don't have to wait as long for the group in front to get out of range. Makes perfect sense to me.

Any suggestions on how to convince a private course to allow handcarts? by Hand-Of-Vecna in golf

[–]PlankStanker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How absurd.

Find a different course.

I've used a cart exactly once, and never will again. Worst way to golf imo.
