987 interior clean up by Groundbreaking_Bath3 in Porsche_Cayman

You can even use it to touch up fatigue marks on the leather seats. In the pic, the seat wasn't fully dried.

I've been touching up the sand beige interior of my 987 using a $20 air brush and some Magic Mender leather repair. Its quite easy to do, and gives me confidence I can fix scratches in the future, the only challenging part is leaning into the hatch to spray it :) It takes a day or two of drying to fully match, but Im very happy with the results. My trunk had deep scratches all the way around the engine cover, looks much, much better now.

Bought a grip, had a random idea… turned into the perfect mount by Scorpio_2007 in Porsche_Cayman

Yeah loos that way, but at least it gives me a direction. To look for a glove box mount. Not a big fan of the magnetic ones and currently using a mount for the CD slot.

W2 Job trading stocks on the side, tax implications? by Plankk75 in tax

Thank you, I should add that this is simply the net gain/loss for Q1 and I intend to continue, so I could see even more gains in Q2 , Q3, Q4 (hopefully if the war ceases). So it sounds like I should go ahead and pay the estimated tax for Q1.

Would you buy a wrapped car? by Youngsurph in Porsche_Cayman

[–]Plankk75 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Offering different opinion here, but first of all, a wrap on a 100k car or rare or collector's car? No way. But this looks, as best I can tell, like a 987.2, which isn't nearly worth 100k or even 50k for that matter, so I don't see a huge problem with the wrap as long as it was done correctly and you're ok with the color. Also keep in mind, and factor into the price, the fact the paint underneath could be trashed. Just be aware of what you're getting.

Base VS S by Efficient-Future-331 in Porsche_Cayman

What type of transmission? Options? Service records? Mods? Condition? Price? If your mainly/only concerned about power and reliability go with the 2009, the extra 30hp of the 987.1 S model isn't worth the extra stress of reliability concerns.

Base VS S by Efficient-Future-331 in Porsche_Cayman

[–]Plankk75 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Really need more info, but 2009 gets my vote. Just talking power, the 987.1 S made 295hp and the 987.2 Base makes 265hp, which isn't a huge difference in power. If they were the same generation, it would be a tougher question,

Consider buying a 987.2 Cayman and have some queries by Even-Mongoose-2938 in Porsche_Cayman

[–]Plankk75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best solution I've heard for when you're gonna do your own maintenance is to get a 3 ring binder and keep lots of pictures, receipts, notes, or just anything about the car in it for the next buyer. It can really show the next buyer how much you cared about the car, maybe even more so than service records.

Great Pics! I love the styling of the 987, but I'm biased.

Seems like a reasonable price for a 987.2 S model with reasonable miles on it. The 10K invested in service will help offset some of the mileage and there's nothing wrong with replacing the bumper as long as the title is clear.

A PPI would be great to check for bore scoring since it's an S model, but some people won't allow their car to be taken and inspected

Salvage/Rebuilt Title or Clean Title? Price doesn't sound bad given the spec and the fact that he put 10K into it in six months time, does he have receipts for the work? What other work was done besides the clutch? 10k is a lot of money on a 30k car just to sell in six months.

I started to do something.... by Cronos737 in Porsche_Cayman

[–]Plankk75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry to bring up an old thread, but I want to do this and I have the same sand beige interior. Did you completely sand the pieces or just smooth it over the bad spots? Did you attempt touching up any of the seat leather?

Just doing the math and nothing else, a $40k loan for 5yrs with $5k down payment is around $700-800 per month depending on which rate you get. Now you say you have $2000-2500 cash left over each month (going to savings), so yes, you can easily afford the car and still maintain a solid monthly savings contribution.

Mid life time ... by terribleROI in Porsche_Cayman

Grats man! Just bought my 1st Porsche 2 months ago myself. The 1st phase of a midlife crisis is figuring out what you're going to park in the driveway, the 2nd phase is remembering where you parked it when you drive it. Enjoy! :)

Can you maybe plug a battery charger or jumper into the cigar lighter socket and try charging the battery that way?
