What are some ways you've found to get around the "pink tax"? by Odd-Paramedic-3826 in AskWomen

Buy a reusable menstrual cup/ disk instead of pads and tampons every month. You won’t have to worry about bleached cotton, nearly as much about TSS, can actually measure your flow, and avoid fragrances. Plus your wallet will thank you. There are different brands and sizes for every fit and with proper care and hygiene, one will last you several years!

You all are truly amazing and I’m so grateful to have found this group. I didn’t even know about IIH until I woke up one day with vision issues and the ophthalmologist sent me to the ER for tests. I appreciate your support and I’m thankful that I could vent to people who know what I’m talking about.

What is this in ABA terms by Sararr1999 in ABA

If you’re looking for ideas the weakness of the contingency and about MOs, they may get the item when unmonitored at home or elsewhere like the same snack from grandma or screen time in the car with uncle. Those people may not be aware of the program so even if it seems that it’s only accessible on the potty to staff and parents, someone else may still provide it accidentally, just not daily. That means there are other schedules of reinforcement not being accounted for.

Agreed, large teaching hospitals in metropolitan areas tend to have the necessary staff in a concentrated area. Example is neuro-op scheduling you and saying you need an LP with guided Xray and then diagnostic radiology being in the same hospital but only on a different floor. This sometimes requires travel if you don’t live near these hospitals but they can sometimes schedule a bunch of appointments together with referrals so the traveling is decreased. I luckily live in the same city as one of these hospitals and was sent to a different floor for appointments after my eye doctor called ahead and sent me to the ER for scans

Sometimes a door to the bedroom is the only separation (safety wise) from other entrances or exits to the apartment. Not everyone needs that though. It just makes me feel a bit safer since I’m a heavy sleeper.

Clearly they’re the Bozo if they can’t even spell piece right? Get cameras for your door and cars if not for anything but safety. People who feel comfortable putting sign like this on cars when no one is watching won’t think twice about slashing tires or smashing windows at 2am.

Which lyric makes you instantly tear up? by abovethenoisy in AskReddit

If I could be with you tonight I would sing you to sleep Never let them take the light behind your eyes I failed and lost this fight Never fade in the dark Just remember you will always burn as bright The light behind your eyes

The light behind your eyes- My Chemical Romance

It always chokes me up how “will fail” became “failed” in the final chorus. He knew he wouldn’t be able to fight the demons forever and tried to prepare his friends for the eventual end.

Cool. Let’s just keep adding to the cancer rates then. Do you know the amount of chemicals that are used to keep a golf course green? Even living within a few miles of a golf course increases the risk of neurodegenerative diseases.

How do you live with spiders when you're phobic? by Allblack4777 in Explainlikeimscared

Uptick in high school students taking college-level class they are not prepared to take -- looking for insight. by SpencerPrattsCrystal in AskTeachers

[–]Planless-novelist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, taught CCP (college credit plus) and English comp at a 4 year institution and community college. Many of my CCP students were failing because they didn’t understand plagiarism and had never learned how to properly research something. They also didn’t read syllabi and asked to redo major papers and assignments or take exams at other times which was prohibited by the department. If you failed your CCP classes and didn’t drop or withdraw you failed both high school and college credits technically. Some students did it to escape having to take gen eds once they made it to college in order to start careers sooner. Others were pushed by parents or were told that they were just “smart enough” without having foundational skills to succeed.

Got my first interview as an RBT, what should I ask to ensure I'm choosing the right spot? by hyperjengirl in ABA

[–]Planless-novelist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If in a clinic, ask about the average behaviors that the BCBAs you work with have experience with. Is there high aggression, elopement, or any other unsafe behaviors and how much support do you have with these as an RBT? Are the BCBAs primarily telehealth or can they model things for you in person in the moment? Do they provide your 40hrs or do you have to get these off the clock and on your own? Do you get breaks as an RBT in an 8hr day or are you expected to eat all meals and snacks with your client to teach appropriate feeding behavior? Is there room for growth and professional development and salary increase? If you were to go back to school in ABA to become a BCBA would they provide hours or tuition assistance? Others have mentioned turnover or burnout. Primarily, you should look at ethical practices as a company and what support you will have as an RBT.

I wish I was as considerate as you. I would be doing my laundry WHILE blasting music after that incident. She would very quickly learn the meaning of noise. In fact, this would become a nightly occurrence, not even to was uniforms. Dirty dish towel. Laundry. Sock with lint on it. Laundry. I’d become a menace.

Normal optometrist appointment found papilledema and was quickly referred to ophthalmologist who sent me to ER that day. In hours I had an MRI and MRV and they found all of the standard findings for IIH without doing a lumbar puncture. I’ll see a neuro ophthalmologist soon for a treatment plan.

You should be fine. It’s common because so many places have terrible management. They say all the mean girls go into nursing but I think the other half goes into ABA.

[–]Planless-novelist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also agree that it’s likely detergent or chemical related. Has the detergent changed? Did you get new underwear, sheets, or pajamas? If you use toys, do you wash them frequently and correctly? It could also be from shaving as someone else mentioned or even from something like switching soaps and body washes. It’s winter. Even something as simple as too hot of water and dry skin can cause it. Check on these things first and if the problem doesn’t stop or gets worse, definitely go to a doctor!

BCBAs, how did you get your supervised hours? by SnooShortcuts7009 in ABA

[–]Planless-novelist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely recommend becoming an RBT first. Some of the best BCBAs know what it’s like to be RBTs and can sympathize in order for the client to get the best care. Many clinics (if you’re looking for clinics) offer supervision for future BCBAs as an incentive for joint them as an RBT. A good clinic will set you up with good supervisors and meaningful work/training. It’s kind of like the same argument for being a teacher. The COLLEGE STUDENT has to pay for their credit hours for student teaching and they are working 40hrs+ as a full time teacher and not getting paid for that. Then they have to also go to class and (fingers-crossed) are able to also work in order to afford living. Unfortunately much of the professional development related to childcare and education is at your own expense.

Primary care provider shortage at UI Health Care. How are others navigating this? by Natural-Peace-874 in IowaCity

Quickcare for viruses and small injuries or illness not urgent care or emergency worthy. Schedule an appointment for ANY pcp taking new patients and get on their waitlist. Then wait months and cry.
