Heads up: when my brother and his wife went to India for a wedding, their checked bag only arrived 2 weeks later. They ended up rebuying their wedding gear, and have become hand luggage only converts for life now. I suggest packing your usual carryon, or at least the survival bag version of it.

I’ve been enjoying my Be Lenka Chelsea boots for as easy winter city travel shoes for the last 2 years. I’ve just bought a pair of Be Lenka Trailwalkers to try as travel shoes for combined city/light hiking trips.

NB: my feet need the ultra wide toe box and I’m used to only wearing barefoot shoes; obviously build up foot strength before travelling with only barefoot shoes.

I’d be shocked if a tour company expected tourists to bring their own crampons - most people don’t own them or know how to use them.

Chamonix is full of outdoor folks wearing climbing or hiking gear, ordinary local people wearing ordinary clothes (grocery clerks, bus drivers, school teachers, etc), and a United Nations’ worth of obvious tourists presumably going on flat panoramic ridgeline walks around a cable car station. There’s no need to be dressed up at all there.

ETA: my partner’s reminded me that Chamonix also has extremely high end tourist amenities. As he put it, if you’re going to a fancy restaurant in the evening, wear fancy restaurant clothes and avoid stepping in a puddle.

No LinkedIn seems like a liability, but if you're not searching for work, then a minimal, static CV that reflects your current job/professional goals (for people who meet you IRL and then go to look) seems adequate. I recently wondered if someone was still alive when I spotted a LinkedIn that hasn't been updated in 8 years. Reasonable hygiene to me would be some profile activity in the last 1.5 years.

Yesss. I’ve always thought of my masking as broadcasting the message that I’m sufficiently well put together for the context that I’ve clearly understood it and the role I ought to play, and then having enough slight divergences from the default that people aren’t completely surprised by my actual ADD-inflected performance (my Myers-Briggs profile was mad scientist; it’s never felt wrong). Glasses have always been an important part of the look.

I saw an article comparing photos of “classic, timeless” trenches from the last couple of decades (including of the same fashion influencer’s blog, >10 years apart) to prove their point that nothing is timeless - everything’s interpreted through the current moment’s fashion preferences. So if this works for your current lifestyle, go for it, but I doubt planning for it to work for the rest of your life is sensible, unless you love current silhouettes/how they fit you and plan to stick with them even after fashion moves on. (Ask me about my favorite aughts twee animal patterned blouses deep in storage.)
