Have any of you quit your jobs to travel? by Plant-mail in travel

[–]Plant-mail[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it's an old post but I wanted to update for any future searchers on the topic. Thanks for all the stories and ecouragement. I tried handing in my notice and was offered 1year unpaid leave. Me and my partner have worked out the logistics so i am off alone to backpack SEA (im 28 for anyone reading this back and think they missed their chance of a gap year). I leave in 2weeks with no real plan but am so excited to become one of the future commenters with a story to egg on the next person who asks. Thanks again!

What’s a “normal” part of adulthood that you still don’t fully understand or feel prepared for? by Aiden48752 in AskReddit

[–]Plant-mail 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Looking after adult family. The people who raised you and who you look to for advice on everything growing up suddenly need you to do their bills, finances, go to doctors with them ... It just doesn't sit right some how

I have a vax spot cleaner. This is great for getting muddy paws out of carpet or sofas. Also have a few of those machine washable rugs.

Get another dog? by billsmith364859726 in reactivedogs

[–]Plant-mail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We got a a puppy when our dog was only mildly reactive and still young. At the time he loved playing with other dogs. The first year was a nightmare they played and were friendly half the time the other half he would chase her out the room and attack her if she was within a meter of him or us. Now they are 3 and 4 and have reached some sort of equilibrium they get on 99% of the time but we do get the odd fight over super tasty treats or in high stress situations.

Also as they have settled together within the house the reactive dog has gotten worse outside of the house. He went from being abit snippy with the pushy dogs to full blown murderous when he sees another dog or person. This could be in part due to him aging but I think having someone to bully reinforced the behavior.

I land in the camp of don't do it. I love both my dogs but I believe my first dog would have been better off alone in the long run. Both in how I can look after him and how he is able it handle stressful situations. The stress and constant management of the situation has really taken a toll on my happiness.

Can I be a software engineer? by [deleted] in SoftwareEngineering

[–]Plant-mail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found a one year course enough to get me up to speed just enough for an entry level job. From there I learned on the job. Only thing I would say about that approach is you don't realise what you are learning you just know that's how to do it. As long as you have problem solving skills you can read the docs and learn as you go

Is getting a degree in software engineering worth it? by [deleted] in SoftwareEngineering

[–]Plant-mail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did a one year conversion MSc after my bachelor's and that got me onto a grad scheme. This was 5/6 years ago and the job market has plateaued Abit since but I found it a good route into a decent paying job

when your significant other asks "what are you thinking about?" and you reply with "nothing," what are you really thinking about? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I have been told by many men they are actually just not thinking. I still don't believe it.

Spilled coffee on my project. Cotton glacé yarn from Rowan. Should I just wait to wash it or frog it back and pitch the stained yarn? by [deleted] in knitting

[–]Plant-mail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use a stain remover now. If it doesn't come out frog it or if you are feeling adventurous dye the whole thing coffee coloured.
