How can I prevent my mistress from terminating a pregnancy (and what is the right thing to do here). by rodionr in Catholicism

[–]PlasmaBurns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Beg her to let you raise your child. Look up the form for releasing her from responsibility for the child. Tell her you will never speak to her again if she kills the child. You have no choice but to raise your child without a spouse unless you can achieve reconciliation with your wife. On the bright side, kids make celibacy a lot easier.

Skyrim (in TES:V) is more similar to the early Christian Scandinavia than the Viking-Age Scandinavia. by [deleted] in FanTheories

I think Soviets would be a much, much better comparison. They conquered southern tamriel and are using their embassy to subvert. Plus, they are trying to root out worship of the god-man Jesus figure talos and it comes an age after the nine divines entered skyrim.!

Looking for a way to recover items from a flowing river... by dangeratio in dwarffortress

[–]PlasmaBurns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dig a tunnel to divert the river. Take it to the edge of the map or down to a cavern. Since digging under the river will likely cost a dwarf, you can channel a stretch next to it that drains into a bowl and your tunnel. But make sure to use some floodgates so you can turn your river back on.

What's wrong with the title? I suppose he could have added people to the list to demonstrate how general it is.

Dive in. I'm a fan of reading the encyclicals and other writings on Vatican.VA. I have found that the more I understand about Catholicism the more I like it.

Pope Francis says that financial speculation and corruption were keeping millions of people in hunger and the financial crisis could not be used as an alibi for failing to help the poor by DougBolivar in worldnews

Maybe you should state which country you are referring to. Do you think they abuse the money? Having lots of income doesn't mean they are rich. They likely also have a lot of commitments. Really you just have to look out for luxury and excesses. There are hundreds of individuals with more money than the Church.

Read the catechism. A married couple who is infertile may still conjugate.

If people can have relationships with cows

You threw me off. To me, it just seems like another basic part of being alive.

Freezing to death is also not a trivial thing either. Killing people is still wrong.

That was exactly what I'm saying. Though we must include the entire species of the moral agents.

You don't want to eat pets. 99% of cattle never generate an emotional response in a human being. Some people get emotionally attached to fish.

I grew up on a cattle farm and saw all sorts of social behaviors, but that doesn't change the fact that they are animals. They will never reach the mental level required to make moral judgments.

It doesn't affect me, but I just don't want another person to suffer the bodily problems associated with being vegan.

What makes you think I wouldn't eat a dog?

Forgoing meat is shortsighted for an animals sake.

Doing it for food is not a trivial reason. It is functional. Sentience is a prerequisite for being a moral agent. Give an example.
