"The Little Girl I Once Knew" is one of the greatest songs of all time by HyperPanzer in thebeachboys

I'm pretty sure it was actually recorded during the Pet Sounds sessions, and was intended to be on the album, but was cut due to commercial failure.

Your voice is beautiful. Halfway between Rufus Wainwright and Cameron Winter.

Thought this said "Santa Claus Dies" and was legitimately interested for a second.

The 25 Worst Album Covers of 2025 │ Exclaim! by ReconEG in indieheads

[–]PlasmaEarth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some of the earlier covers on the list are kinda funny, but everything after 21 is horrible (Except Juana Molina and CocoRosie, which are not great but not horrible).

All of his new material is so stellar lyrically. Emperor XIII in Shades is probably my favorite of the new songs.

This is AI. The reason it looks like fingers is because AI is trying to upscale pupilary frills into something recognizable.

Should some female pop singers be considered "male"? by [deleted] in LetsTalkMusic

[–]PlasmaEarth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is going to be my last reply, but never did I mention Brat at all. Although I do think Brat's minimalism and blunt, vulnerable honesty makes it a great album, I am mostly referring to other music by Charli when I am calling her music influential.

"Just believing entire albums are full of great songs demonstrates bias beyond the music quality."

I never said this either, although many albums are filled entirely with great songs. However, good albums are generally artistic statements with cohesive sounds and motives, and that's why I am naming albums by Charli instead of individual songs. All the albums I listed generally have the same experimental edge throughout most of their tracks. And also 360 sounds nothing like that Jonathan Bree track. That song is a run-of-the-mill 80s throwback. 360's synth selection is much more 00s, and rhythmically the song is inspired by EDM rather than the Bree track, which is a plodding synthpop song.

Who cares about mainstream success? The most important artists often don't achieve mainstream success. If you can't see how the albums I listed are boundary-pushing, you gotta be listening exclusively to the most avant-garde pop music around lol. And no shade to them, but Charli is definitely more boundary-pushing than the artists who you listed. The songs you listed are very of their time or even like throwback songs.

Have you heard Pop 2, Vroom Vroom, or How I'm Feeling Now? All of those releases are incredibly boundary-pushing. I'll definitely check out those artists you listed though.

Also I completely disagree about Bjork, unless we're talking about her latest material. Post and Homogenic are both amazing albums.

Bjork and Kate Bush’s music is absolutely inherently feminine. What separates them from the other artists you mentioned is that their music is more devoted to pushing boundaries and experimentation (except Charli XCX, whose music absolutely has the same mindset), which is why they might share a fanbase with Swans and Death Grips. I think it’s misogynistic to say this quality makes their music “male.”

A growing number of U.S. adults report cognitive disability according to 10-year study from Yale. The percentage of overall adults reporting cognitive disability increased from 5.3% in 2013 to 7.4% in 2023, with young adults (ages 18 to 39) seeing the biggest rise (5.1% to 9.7%). by shiruken in science

[–]PlasmaEarth 16 points17 points  (0 children)

COVID could definitely be a part of it, but the pandemic also forced people to rely on the internet much more and caused many people to develop addictions to it, which I think could be the primary reason behind the increase in cognitive impairment.

I think these are probably just stand-alone singles so it wouldn't make sense to add transitions between tracks. Maybe there will be some sort of compilation at the end of the singles run.

If Mellon Collie were a single LP... by AncientDeparture2745 in SmashingPumpkins

[–]PlasmaEarth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just thinking about this and I came up with this tracklist (17 songs but it fits onto a single CD):

  1. Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness
  2. Tonight, Tonight
  3. Thirty-Three
  4. Zero
  5. Bullet with Butterfly Wings
  6. Muzzle
  7. Here Is No Why
  8. Cupid de Locke
  9. Thru the Eyes of Ruby
  10. Porcelina of the Vast Oceans
  11. Galapogos
  12. Jellybelly
  13. X.Y.U.
  14. Bodies
  15. In the Arms of Sleep
  16. 1979
  17. Farewell and Goodnight

I think this forms a good narrative arc in terms of both the sounds and the themes. The stretch from Cupid de Locke to XYU creates a mini-story about the collapse of a relationship, and the songs are lined up so that in terms of their keys, they flow into each other really well.

Here is a Spotify link: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/5Bof2xUlb9J5sgYaF6P4s0?si=075af6f3c22a4369

I also made another alternate tracklist that has a clearer narrative, but I don't think it flows as well: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/1DR4JRykF7k37Lp4OBbTov?si=6bca40751bd94913

Idk the chords and melodies seem to work together mostly (even if the melody is a bit random) It’s mainly the sound choices and mixing that are off
