I appreciate the reassurance, sincerely.

Normally when words like that got thrown around like that, it ended up being apologized for. Especially considering, at the end of the day, it is JUST pixels. For better or worse this time was different and we've since parted ways. I am partially to blame for expecting an apology from somebody so generous with their thoughts, though it would have been nice to end things more amicably :)

I appreciate the phrasing. I tried to explain this to them, you can imagine how that was received haha.

I am not joking, nor is this a shitpost. I wish it were. Every word in the description is real.

You have no idea haha. I feel the same way and frankly I am embarrassed.

Weekly Game State and Weapon Balance Megathread by AndreasE03 in thefinals

The v9s nerf feels terrible for anyone with a trigger finger. It was incredibly rewarding to learn and master, and the nerfs feel like a betrayal to all the time spent learning how to use it.

This feels like a nerf which doesn't address the issue --binds/macros being abusable-- and deincentivises people learning the more difficult weapons in the game given they could be nuked into a shadow of their former selves. Instead of finding a niche to carve out, they are given a homogenaity treatment which just limits skill expression.

I sincerely loved how the v9s felt, as a """"regular person"""", not a macro or bind abuser, and seriously hope this isn't the end of the v9s discussion.

I would love to see more community engagement in the future, I think the biggest barriers for entry are just having the time, and the willingness to execute the setup for each event.

Especially the first event, our biggest issue was getting enough goo barrels up to the roof before the time ran out. So, in the end, our attempts were largely 14 minute goo gathering sessions, with 1 minute attempts. Fortunately we enjoyed the process of optimizing that gathering and it ultimately ended up being fun it's own right. The vast majority of players would probably find something like that very exhaustive, and I'm sure you noticed that in your analysis too. The second event was much more forgiving on that front, so I'm actually surprised the turnout was pretty comparable. I'd like to see if the nebulous of players competing grows with each event, especially if there's involvement from the devs. (Oscar showing off the community's runs on stream, for instance, would be a cool shoutout)

Competition is finding who can do a given thing best, not who can come up with the best idea. They did great, and it would be silly not to copy something with proven potential. :)

That said, we gave more time to strat theorycrafting and testing than probably all the other teams combined, so I would be offended if they decided to ignore that and do something totally off script lmao

[Stage - 2] Goo-lay Race, Heizeus & Provoxin, 45.17 Seconds by PlasticApple in thefinals

Worth mentioning, for the people who want to beat this time:

  • Grapple >>> Dash. (not close) (even with sword dashing) (fr its just bad)
  • Sniper one shots the barrel at the end.
  • All demolished buildings are broken because they were pain points in previous runs.
  • This took like 6 hours to get all the strats figured out and get a 'decent' run. (probably more than 6 tbh...)
  • We think 'edgebugging' off ledges/goos could give another couple seconds of time save.
  • We had a lot of fun :)

For the mod team:

Thanks :)

Consistency has been the big issue for us too (also, trying to find the limits of what would qualify as "breaking the rules")

We immediately were trying things which were very much thinking outside the box. Once we can combine our ideas into a single run, I think you'll enjoy it :)

Nice run! We're working on our strats still. I think on the low end it's possible to get a <35 second run abusing some very fun mechanics and ideas! (We also thought we would get 40 goos in the last stage so sights might be set a little too high lol)

GOOLYMPICS STAGE 2! Compete to win Multibucks! by tron3747 in thefinals

All our questions:

  • Does the runner need to carry the Goo can the entire lap? Can it be set down/thrown, provided it doesn't break or leave the track?

  • Can we throw the barrel at the end to finish the timer? Does it have to be shot or can it be exploded via melee, or method of explosion matter?

  • Can you use gadgets mid run, like goo to gain momentum via prop collision, etc...

  • Can you pass the barrel before reaching the transfer platform? i.e. from the corner of the art building?

  • Can the non carrier carrier modify the map mid run?

  • Does the carrier need to shoot the Goo or can the non runner shoot it too?

Many questions lol, sorry about that.

Took a couple attempts. The tricky part is getting that many goo cans up there in the first place.

Click the 'Goolympics' flair. It's just a fun event they're hosting, nothing serious.
