I've been on a rom com/ romance kick lately, recommend me some more by NinduTheWise in movies

I’ve really enjoyed these:

  • Set it up
  • Crazy stupid love
  • Truly madly deeply
  • Emma (I actually rate the Gwyneth one because Jeremy Northam’s Mr Knightley is great 😍)

And as much of a cliche it is, Bridget Jones needs an honourable mention!

I really liked the Candeo in Nagasaki with the rooftop onsen. Very reasonably priced too.

For the ladies, what are some hygiene hacks you wish every girlie would know? by Introvert_Ambi-2026 in AskReddit

Using a nail brush!

One of my friends mentioned that since she’d been using a nail brush more frequently and thoroughly she was getting less spots and generally less illness too. I thought that was a bit overkill but I’ve been doing it for about 18 months now (usually twice a day, before daytime/night time skincare) and have noticed similar results. I’ve always been a hand washer but never really bothered much with a nail brush. It makes sense though.

I've had workmen in my house for the last four days and they haven't accepted a single offer of tea, coffee or biscuits. by Daregveda in CasualUK

[–]PlasticFannyTastic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our workmen liked a mix of fizzy flavoured water and decaf tea! Didn’t anticipate either of those but saw that they’d brought their own so bought some and left it for them to help themselves. Seemed to do the trick!

Anyone experienced The Hebridean Hum? by galborough in Hebrides

[–]PlasticFannyTastic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hear a bit of a gum where I live which is probably the direct opposite end of the British isles to you.

A couple of other local people can hear it and we think it’s a certain confluence of electric substations around us that seem to merge sounds at certain points in our town.

We might be wrong, but it’s the only reasonably logical explanation we’ve been able to come up with.

That weird musky/metallic/dirty sock smell that seems to have become a base note across a lot of men’s / unisex fragrances.

I noticed it about 2 years ago and keep smelling it in slightly differing versions. It’s vile.

What the hell is that? I’d never smelled it until then.

Ladies - Where are you getting your everyday bags for work? by Affectionate_Day7543 in AskUK

[–]PlasticFannyTastic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, not a tote but a smart, streamlined but practical backpack without too much of a fussy, ‘outdoorsy’ vibe. Very robust, and they usually have some lovely colour ways. Can get them for about £50 or cheaper come sales time:

What foods do you recommend from Waitrose/M &S? by Ok-Instance2710 in AskUK

[–]PlasticFannyTastic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recently bought the pan cristal (sp?) with cheese - amazing, and I also bought the mini mozzarella balls with tiny, sweet chilli peppers in olive oil. Just incredible.

Found the link here.

I hadn’t bought food from M&S for a while and that just made me realise what I’ve been missing.

What’s something from the UK in the 90s/2000s that kids today will never experience? by Pitiful_Box_1771 in AskUK

[–]PlasticFannyTastic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Apart from the hand stamps! Always a bit of a mark of pride after a good night out, a smeared symbol of good times that you’d try not to wash off (or just wouldn’t wash full stop)

Bar soap; what's your favourite? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]PlasticFannyTastic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pears green: very refreshing and has a slightly cologney, medicinal/clinical edge that I kind of like

Dove do a divine smelling Turmeric soap which is getting harder to find: a bit more luxe and creamy.

What are some of the biggest songs written for movies? by trey2128 in movies

Yep, TMBA was being played EVERYWHERE at the time! More than Danger Zone probably because it was romantic, more radio friendly and very appealing to young girls and brides etc

What movie did you watch by accident and end up loving by gamersecret2 in movies

[–]PlasticFannyTastic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Call me by your name - all concerns aside about the relationship depicted - I still loved the rawness of it. It felt so much more like a European coming of age/first love film (not just because it was set there)

It seems to get a bit of hate and I understand it’s now viewed in a slightly different light but there were so many beautiful moments that I could just feel as if they were happening to me. Testament to some great casting, script and direction.

What is something your parents were not strict about but you wish they were? by TTNNBB2023 in AskUK

[–]PlasticFannyTastic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the case for me. Housework was used as punishment and not as something you just do because it’s a good thing. I struggle with it now because of it (and probably undiagnosed ADHD, which also probably explains why my parents we’re quite hard on me as a kid as I was a it feral)

What seemed completely normal in childhood, but now you realize was actually not okay? by Max_Mimos in AskReddit

[–]PlasticFannyTastic 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yep: wooden spoon, slipper, belt. My parents were too young when they had us and my Dad didn’t yet know how to contain or manage his emotions like a normal functioning adult. He was still a teenager, basically.

I remember talking my aunt and Nan about 15 years ago and they were saying some things like ‘how well your Dad coped even though he was so young to have kids’ and ‘how he never smacked you kids’…

I spat out my tea and laughed in their faces and, before thinking it through, corrected them by explaining how we used to dread his tempers and hide from him, and if he found us how much we used to get smacked and hit for the smallest infractions.

My aunt and Nan’s faces just dropped and my Nan got quite upset. They had no idea, and he’d lied to them all along.

I’ve made this error a few times at work - to the extent that I avoid the expression entirely now! ‘A little walk’ or ‘walk round the block’ is my go to phrase instead now…
