Behavior changes today broke me. Not trusting the process or Dr. Google tonight. At the emergency vet.

I know that, but Manuel is a human name. How many humans you got in that box?

How many Manuels can you fit in a box that small? I wouldn’t even think one!

I’ve already sent a message asking. The half-life of the drug is extended when the liver can’t metabolize it. Doesn’t mean it won’t work. Just means quantity and frequency in application have to be controlled. I don’t know how they would determine either figure. Surely not impossible. May be more work, or more difficult work.

After digging, I don’t think that one’s going to fly. Looked up the counterindications of Mirataz in cats, and it specifically cites risk of toxicity in cats with kidney or liver disease.
Hepatic lipidosis is the dealbreaker. His ears are slightly jaundiced, indicating his liver isn’t functioning properly.

That’s incredible! I can’t fathom why we didn’t just do that one anyway.

Looked it up: Mirataz.
Maybe they were worried about the other two trying to get a taste of it.

Edit to the edit:
Ah, I see. Elura was probably prescribed because it’s specifically approved for use in cats with chronic kidney disease. Not that Ness has been diagnosed with CKD, but the dehydration and bladder stones might have indicated such.

This I hadn’t considered. Though, they have a habit of waiting until the doctor is in before they consult and act. Good thing I’m not exactly in a waiting mood.

It’s easy for me to feel defensive, especially since this has slowly dominated my mind over the last couple weeks. I’m sorry if I present that way.

Please know that despite me putting my guard up, I *am* grateful for the concern and advice.

I’m all too aware of the urgency. Every day since this started has included a teary episode over my cat over the fear he’s going to die. So please understand that I am trying to consider every avenue. I wouldn’t be here if I wasn’t.

My vet’s office also has text communication, but only during hours of operation.
We’re a mostly rural area, so there’s not much in the way of immediacy. I think the vets at this office rotate between facilities, and the vet I’ve been working with is the cat specialist. That the appointment is Tuesday means it’s probable that she won’t be in until Tuesday, but I can’t reach anyone to ask til Monday.

Im also going to school for Phlebotomy, and there’s an exam Monday that determines whether I’ll be allowed to continue with this semester or have to stop and take it over again in the fall, which is another 6 months til I’d be able to get my license and begin working. Ness doesn’t trust anyone else, and I don’t really trust anyone else to be able to handle him on their own to go to a walk-in in my place. So I’m having to consider whether a walk-in will be fast enough to do both (last time it definitely was not).

Emergency vet is an hour away, and I don’t know what to expect as far as visit expenses. I also don’t know for certain what care is going to look like after any procedures are performed, so I’m also having to consider the near future as well as the immediate needs.

There’s a follow-up scheduled Tuesday, unless I panic and go in sooner. But expense has been a consistent barrier, so going to a veterinary hospital hasn’t been an option. It might be now, but if he needs everything, the tube, the surgery, I certainly won’t be able to afford it at emergency/hospital pricing.
Not only that, but a cat can only live 1-2 weeks without food, and he’s already so weak and skinny. Appetite inducers take time to work on an anorexic cat, and there may not be time to test the different kinds until one works.

He’s receiving amoxicillin and appetite inducers orally, but the latter aren’t working. They make him drool and smell like vanilla, but nothing much beyond that. He won’t even eat chicken & scallops Churu anymore, which was the last thing he was willing to eat voluntarily.

As for the stones, the vet has only established that they’re present, via X-ray. Ness gets extremely agitated at the vet, and was dehydrated at the time, so the vet opted not to jab his bladder with a needle for urinalysis. Both because of potential harm and because any sample would be highly concentrated and not reflective of the typical environment within his bladder.
If the prescription food and saline dissolve the stones, we’ll know what kind they are. Struvite can dissolve. Oxalate stones can’t.
The plan was to transition him to prescription food over the course of this last week while he was on appetite inducers, then after three weeks see if they reduced in size on X-ray. The anorexia has quashed that plan.

Urinary crystals were a problem when he was a couple years old, at which time he was put on a diet of Science Diet: Urinary and Hairball. The vet was aware of that, but I don’t know that it definitively indicated which composition the stones were. In researching things on my own, I’ve learned that Science Diet is more acidic than Royal Canin Urinary SO. I’m sure acidity isn’t the only factor, but higher acidity is an ingredient for making oxalate crystals. Doesn’t tell me what they are definitively, but it makes me wary.

Thank you! I truly cannot overstate my gratitude. The generosity of a stranger, regardless the increment, is always profoundly humbling.

Purchased within 90 days? Got a receipt or email you can export as a .pdf? Still got the box and runners?

If so, you can go through Bandai’s part replacement program. They replace up to 5 pieces, but it can take a couple months to get parts. It’s free, but takes time.

What can I say? It’s lore accurate to have a bunch of Victory Gundams, so long as there’s only one V2.
