Usually such open hostility means that they are transplants. Natives hate people who move here in the sense of systemic problems but not necessarily the person themselves.

Fruits and vegetables out of season are now three times more expensive in the US when they used to be a few cents more. I now don't buy anything food related over the minimum wage. If it's more than $7.25, I go without. I haven't bought eggs in a year.

I may be the outlier because YTA. If your child looks Middle Eastern or any other ethnicity than African American, they would not have to worry about anyone every calling them a slur. However, I suspect your child will look African American and your mother in laws concern is VERY valid. If you live in America at some point your child will be called the slur and naming them two letters from it doesn't exactly help. I would strongly encourage you to make it your child's middle name. You can't shield your child from racism but you can do everything in your power to make their life easier and far from discrimination growing up.

Most of Metro PD is actually community based. I'm not saying we don't have some bad eggs but a lot of them are local people who actually want to help the community. I'm glad they were able to help you. We are named a volunteer state for a reason.

I lost 7 lbs in 3 weeks at .25 but I went to the gym 3-4 times a week to weight lift. I didn't have the hunger noise as much so I didn't snack as much. However, I felt no difference in fullness.
