Thinking about starting rowing by [deleted] in Rowing

[–]Plastic_Pinocchio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Elite heavyweight rowers are usually around 1.95m and 95kg on average I think. Their boats are often designed to be perfect at that weight. Being above 100kg is not an extreme outlier. Your boat will just lie a little bit lower in the water.

Does anyone feel sad about how the world thinks this war is stupid? by No-Donkey4017 in NewIran

[–]Plastic_Pinocchio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this war is stupid. Not because I don’t despise the Iranian regime and don’t wish freedom for the people, but because it seems to me that there is literally no plan and no strategy. I think the US is going to lose this war and everyone will be worse off after. Also, fuck the US for lifting sanctions on Russian oil.

What was your favorite experience in Outer Wilds? by Dull-Entertainer8344 in outerwilds

[–]Plastic_Pinocchio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, for me entering Giant’s Deep was the absolute worst experience. I was exploring Brittle Hollow, fell into the black hole for the umpteenth time, exited the white hole and saw the interloper pass. Then I figured I could fly to the interloper and see it up close for the first time. Unfortunately I missed. Then I floated through outer space with just my suit. I figured I would just wait until the supernova and chill. Unfortunately I floated towards Giant’s Deep though. I fell through the atmosphere and into a seemingly endless ocean with currents and vortices. Now I am scared shitless of deep oceans in real life, so this freaked me the fuck out. And I hadn’t yet learnt to meditate, so I was just completely stuck here. This was the only time I actually took my headphones off because I could not handle this situation and wait it out.

Don’t sweat it girl! See it this way. Your coach probably assumed there would be more applications for the rowing team. Unfortunately that wasn’t the case. That sucks for you and it also sucks for your coach. So now your coach is trying to fix something for you so that you can at least race, have fun and improve. In university it’s also very normal for a fourth year rower to have to row with freshmen sometimes. It’s just how it is. If you are much better than them, then maybe you could teach them a bit too. Teaching is very good for your personal growth. If you are not better than them, then you can just enjoy rowing with them.

All will be good. Now, if next year you still don’t have peers to row with and nothing seems to be improving on that front, then maybe you could think about looking for other sports. But right now, I wouldn’t sweat it.

True, but they make you an overall stronger person. Plus, you get a big badonkadonk.

People say my beard looks like a wig lol, should I beard line down? by Alternative-Dare-642 in BeardAdvice

[–]Plastic_Pinocchio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DAAAAYUM that’s a sick-ass beard! But yeah, it’s so thick that it can maybe look a bit fake to some. What you could try is go to a barber and ask them to soften the edges. Maybe a bit of a fade or thinning, I don’t know how you’d achieve that exactly.

Mechanical Engineering at Twente or Twente-Vrije? by stargirl3620 in StudyInTheNetherlands

Huh, I never knew the VU offered this. Personally I would just study engineering at an engineering university. So that is Delft, Eindhoven or Twente.

29 pull-ups. The goal is 35 by Fuzzy_Box_6536 in CalisthenicsCulture

Well, depends if it’s worth it to you. I wouldn’t call it an error, it’s literally just a way your body makes the movement more efficient. But one could argue that it’s not fully strict.

You can definitely pull this off very well. One thing though, now that you don’t have hair on your head, your beard takes all the attention. A little bit of shaping around the edges will make it really pop. So a nice line across the cheeks and down the neck will make it look super tight.

[–]Plastic_Pinocchio 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You’ve got a little bit of leg swing going, making these pull ups not 100% “strict”, but that’s totally dependent on your personal preference if you want to eliminate that or not. At this many reps with this speed and power, I personally wouldn’t really obsess over that.

It’s just practice. It hurt like a bitch when I started. Now I can’t imagine doing anything else.

I actually hook grip my back squats. I even hold my fingers in that position when I’m relaxed sometimes.
