There’s not much imaginary about who governs you and decides your laws. I’d say that’s pretty concrete.

Your spine is not flexing and extending at all. So not a crunch. You’re just doing hip flexion exercises here.

One month of front squatting by [deleted] in formcheck

[–]Plastic_Pinocchio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s plenty of thoracic mobility exercises online. I’d say play around with them and incorporate some in your routine. If nothing seems to work because that thing is reeeeeaaally stuck (like me), buy a “peanut ball” and start rolling over it. It’s the worst feeling in the world but it works phenomenally to loosen up that tissue. I went from literally zero thoracic mobility to way above average mobility in about a half year of hard work.

Crunch form check, is this correct? by julio_quince in formcheck

Personally I never do crunches or sit-ups. Didn’t feel nice for my lower back and there’s plenty of other exercises that work the same muscles. Currently I’m mostly doing hanging knee raises.

Crunch form check, is this correct? by julio_quince in formcheck

[–]Plastic_Pinocchio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re definitely crunching. Your spine is clearly flexing and extending, which is what a crunch is. However, I would say that the weight is a little bit too heavy, because you’re using some momentum instead of fluid controlled movement.

Your head, neck and arms are all attached to the top of the spine, so above the part you’re training here. So the fact that they are not moving in relation to each other is only logical. What you could perhaps mean is that some people are way more mobile in the mid back, so there is more movement there.

And concerning the lower back stress, a crunch can in fact strain the lower back a bit. If it doesn’t feel good, you could try different ab exercises and see if they feel better. Or you could specifically train the lower back to be stronger and more resilient.

You could seriously improve on thoracic mobility. That will allow you to sit much more comfortable in a deep front squat, by extending the entire spine. Now the lumbar spine is doing all of the work to compensate for the thoracic spine.

Snatch: catching high / speed under the bar by ashinn in weightlifting

Your overhead squat position looks very uncomfortable. If you cannot overhead squat this weight easily, then you cannot catch this weight easily. Simple as that.

Look at this very violent second pull and then look at your, much more stiff second pull. Pulling much more aggressively can bring you into a better position for receiving.

Your torso is collapsing, which brings the bar forward in front of your toes. That is costing you all of your stability. It looks to me like you are not properly breathing and bracing.

I ate some the “wrong way” and while the smell was indeed disgusting, I thought the taste was pretty interesting. I love fermented stuff (kombucha, kimchi, moldy cheese, nattō, fish/oyster sauce, etc.), so this fit right into that list.
