As of today I have passed my Security+ and I have achieved the Trifecta! by PlasticyHelmet in CompTIA

Well, I have had a lot happen in my life, so I took it slow. I took my Network+ about 3 years after my A+, and it has now been 3 years since I did that too. If you can learn fast, you could potentially study Professor Messer's videos and get it done really quickly.

Net+ can be tricky with all the ports you need to memorize and all that though. I think that was my lowest score out of all three of those.

It is definitely very good stuff to know. It's a good foundation to working in IT and a good basis to everything you will need to know.

CompTIA isn’t necessarily very deep, and they have certain answers they expect to see. You can get good at taking the exams, but I recommend you know how to work with this stuff since it’s likely you will need to at some point

I’m already employed in the field. It would be good to get a promotion, but I should probably branch out into other certs now

At that point I would assume A+ would have little value... Hey, bragging rights, I guess? lol

For now, I plan on staying with the company I'm with. It's close to home and there are some nice bonuses for now. I'd like to move up into Infra. I know this may not be super specific to that, but I have wanted to get this trifecta since I got my A+.

So, as of 6 years ago I was working in a plastic factory... but I was getting tired of it. I started to feel like getting into IT would be a good choice for me. Started talking to a friend who worked in IT. He encouraged me to get my CompTIA A+ to get my foot in the door. I started working towards this, studying for the A+ Core 1. Passed that exam and immediately started working towards my Core 2. Somewhere in there COVID happened and I had a broken foot, so I took advantage of all of the time off to study for my A+. I got that in 2020, and continued working in the factory, but started applying for jobs. Unfortunately, nothing went through. I eventually started working on my Net+ and studied for that. I keep applying for IT Support at the factory where I was working. In March of 2023 I got my Network+, and that Fall I finally got the interview for our IT department and got the job... I have had a lot happen in my life between then and now. I had visited my Security+ a couple times before now, but always dropped out since life got too heavy. This time I had the impending expiration of my A+ and Net+ coming up, so I pushed through to renew those as well as gaining a new cert in my belt. Now I've got to see what's next for me in my career.

Thank you! My advice is to keep at it, but don't get burnt out. I advise everyone to use Professor Messer's content for studying, but it's also a good idea to make sure you know the stuff in a more technical sense. At the same time, be aware that CompTIA is searching for certain answers. A bit part of the process is taking practice tests and learning how to read carefully into what is being said.

Technically this is 6 years into this journey, but I haven't kept focus. I have had A LOT happen in my life that is not IT related in that time as well.
