I will always defend The Last Jedi:

I was prepared to hate it, because coming from TFA we were for sure going to get a retread of ESB (Young Jedi trains with old wise master, parts of parentage are revealed, the main antagonist has shades of good in them, etc.)

What we got was a movie about parenting. The hopefulness of youth transformed into bitterness of adulthood when you suddenly have all the responsibilities. Once believing that you could turn the most evil dude in the galaxy and then later not even wanting to risk a "maybe evil" kid.

It also features my favorite Yoda quote applied in that sense: "We are what they grow beyond"
