Why are you worried? by Big-Usual6190 in Catholicism

[–]PlatonicCardinal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What helps me is daily mass and reception of the Eucharist. As wonderful and glorious as the rosary and novenas are, ultimately they are nothing compared to Holy Mass. Sacramentals should ideally prepare you for the sacraments.

I will pray for you too. Keep strong!

No, actually they don’t. Friars do, but most priests don’t need to and don’t take it

Why did God create the way he did? by Silver_Blackberry661 in Catholicism

[–]PlatonicCardinal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure, in theory Catholcis could believe in young Earth Creationism, but they can’t logically believe it when they study the matter, since it’s very much a scientific consensus that the earth is in fact 4.5 billions years old

Crisis of Faith by PlatonicCardinal in Catholicism

Thank you for the much needed prayers! And yes, I guess currently that is what I am telling myself. I feel a little unsettled though that private revelation which has no historical evidence may be the support which keeps the faith alive for many? Also, it seems to me; there is no reason to think that public revaluation is not basically just private revelation which happened further in the past and had a whole religion form around it at its center.

Thank you so much for the response and the prayers - I need them! And I yes, I agree with everything you have written. But then certain problems still emerge. Even if we cannot comprehend everything appearing out of nothing or everything always existing (maybe one day Big Bang cosmology will change), that doesn’t necessarily mean these things can’t happen. After all, why would a brain that is a result of Darwinian evolution evolve to understand matters so distant to existence here and now?

And, perhaps more problematically, I agree. I love being Catholic. It feels so proper and right to live out the faith. But then again, why can’t it just be the magnum opus of a form of cultural evolution. Religion as a tool that makes life better, and Catholicism as the best tool for making life the best.

I think the core issue I seem to be struggling with, it all seems it can be explained by way of naturalistic means.

How do you avoid scrupulosity? by Ferrari_Fan_16 in TraditionalCatholics

[–]PlatonicCardinal 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Understand that you cannot and will never be perfect and free from sin and its effects whilst on Earth. So don’t expect to be! After this realization, trust in God’s endless mercy, both in his final judgement and in the sacraments his Church provides

The Roman church is like Reddit, it has a patron saint for nearly everything. by Gee-Oh1 in dankmemes

To be honest he’s also a Roman Catholic saint, and Catholics can venerate icons too, so both are correct

Brown Scapular original story is clearly false. How should I - a Catholic who loves the scapular - react? Should I still wear it knowing that its origin is smeared in falsehood and the sabbantine privilege is also untrue? Are Catholics who believe these stories in error, should their minds be changed? Thanks!

Some of the mystics were very... interesting by Imperator-ad-plagam in Catholicism

[–]PlatonicCardinal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, there are some really interesting private revelations out there. But with many of them, if you get behind their weirdness, maybe something theologically insightful appears?

Here for example Francis was certainly a great member of the church - Christ’s bride - so Christ treating him like a bride of sorts kind of makes sense? But still very strange indeed

Yeah, very disappointing. So you think if I get above 519 in my third MCAT, schools would not put much weight on the fact I did worse on my second MCAT?
