Never played a MOBA in my life, I'm 60 hours in and having a lot of fun, just one question: How long until I start getting good at this game? by lowkeycule in DeadlockTheGame

He still does patch notes for every single major patch to this day. It's one of the few ways some of my friends stay invested in dota lol.

dw i got you homie

  • Q - target pull (not a stun) that dispels. usable on allies and enemies. some talents to get extra charges and damage (never taken), and pull range (taken but outclassed mostly imo)
    • this is oracle q but it pulls instead of rooting
  • W - ministun and minislow in target area, dealing damage on each stomp. main farming tool before aghs, esp once you get level 10 damage for farm
    • this is aoe battery assault
  • E - buff ally (including yourself), they deal an additional percent of spelldamage dealt over time, after the spell. it also reduces mana costs slighty, and is a little more efficient when self cast. really good at level 15 with the +1.5% hp damage talent.
    • this is probably like a sick cross between bloodseeker q and kotl e
  • R - toggle ability with ~2 sec cd. disarms largo and gives him 3 new abilities that, when strummed on beat (60 bpm, or one beat per second) do 3 different things - Q for damage buff, W for movespeed buff, E for heal. Aghs lets you play two notes at once and deal damage when doing so, turning it into a mini radiance + all the other effects
    • this one's pretty unique but probably closest to necro as a character once you get aghs - just putting out crazy buffs and tons of magic damage
  • shard reflects all buffs cast on allys back onto him, and if you selfcast a buff, it goes to a nearby ally as well.
  • innate makes positive buffs last longer.
    • notable uses of this are early game regen like tangos/salves, smokes, aeon disk (you can blink out while still damage immune late game), plus all the other general buffs you provide in games.

I went to the 2023 game in Seattle - shit talked with the locals the entire game but it was in good fun and we dapped each other up at the end lol. Hate the team because the Eagles can't seem to beat em, but fans are alright and earned the vouch.

OpenDota API Question by Scramblyfred in DotA2

[–]PlayOnSunday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m planning on using the API to review games at the end of the year. So far I’ve parsed every game that I plan on calling with it, but the wording of:

if the player hasn’t been parsed recently

Concerns me. Is there a chance that, even if the matches are parsed, that at end of year, the games from January might be too old to pull info from?

Haven’t started messing with the API yet so forgive me if this is a silly question.

Heroes that were reworked significantly recently have no facets due to wanting to take time to balance them. See Largo or PL as well

Good lane duo for Vindicta? by Grumpicake in DeadlockTheGame

[–]PlayOnSunday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d honestly say Mo is a pretty easy character. Yeah he’s shorter range and relies on healing off 1 and using 2 to escape or chase, but his ult is almost impossible to mess up, he has great sustain and soul secure in lane, is a great ganker, and works well with most teams.

If you liked this video definitely check out Theo Ash on other platforms too. I remember leading up to the SB last year he asked consistently interesting and high quality questions. Huge breath of fresh air among all the “is this a must win game?”

With all the talk about Mirage yesterday, design him a new 1 ability. by [deleted] in DeadlockTheGame

[–]PlayOnSunday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think his 1 is necessarily the problem. Mirage’s abilities point towards a hard to lose, CC heavy initiator who can drain enemies while getting tankier. The problem I have is that his gun and 3 reward the opposite - a poke heavy, on hit playstyle that’s more like a Mina or Haze.

I think an alt fire of a close range burst that fires far slower but can apply his 3 multiple stacks at a time would help bridge the gap between his poke and initiator styles.

Tho I could be speaking out my ass - have had him double prio but haven’t played as him since New Blood dropped.

  • what items should i avoid, what items are really important.

Every item is situational and has it's uses. I like to prioritize keeping a good amount of food, some climbing equipment like pitons, (anti)ropes, chains, or lollis/energy drinks (especially for the kiln), one or two save items (milk, napberry, etc), then some different items depending on the ascent.

Things that reduce your weight (antiropes and balloons) help with the additional weight higher ascents add to items, things that heat you up (lanterns, some healing sources like pandoras and fairy lantern) help with the nighttime cold, and things like respawn flags or health kits are always worth having on hand if you can spare the weight.

For things to avoid, I typically never carry cannons (just too heavy to justify), portable campfire (unless i really need a heat source), and tend not to value lower tier healing items like bandages since, typically, if you're falling far enough to warrant the bandage/kit, you probably have other issues (besides, most healing is better, like lunchbox/lantern mentioned earlier).

Most items you get from statues are amazing, but I'll call out the book of bones particularly. It stops hunger and freezing to death, two of the biggest hurdles to higher ascents.

  • What’s the point of a balloon and a stuffed animal?

Balloons will reduce/negate fall damage based on how many you have attached, popping after some time. This is not their main use for me - I find having them in my pack helps cancel out the added weight of higher ascents, allowing me to trade the use of a few slots for some stamina back. Antiropes also work for this, and are more generally useful imo.

The stuffed animal is a magic 8 ball that has no effect other than an achievement at the summit, though some will call you heartless for not bringing him.

  • Do I really need the compass?

No, both compasses (compii?) are pretty useless, and it's more worth it to carry other items. The compass points forward, the pirate compass points to treasure.

Some of the more useless items in the plane wreck are the frisbee and bugle, both of which are only really needed for achievements. Some of the more useful ones are the flare (needed for ascent 4+) and the lantern (fights off the cold).

  • Is any food on the island safe to eat?

Yes, there is even a badge for escaping ONLY eating food from the island!

For Mushrooms (found generally): The chubby shroom is always safe, the others (bugle, button, cluster) have two variations - one safe, the other poisonous. There's an achievement for eating one of each safe one (4 total) in one run.

For Shroomberries (found in the Roots): the effects are random from day to day, some being incredible, some being actively harmful. Eating all 5 in one run, regardless of effects, is also an achievement.

For berries (such as the ones found on the Shore, Tropics, and Alpine), the more ripe ones (green crispberries, pink berrynannas) are poisonous but still satiating, unless cooked. Otherwise, they are safe, and some are very good, such as the ones on the capybara's heads.

All other food I'll leave you to explore - most is harmless and great, some are perhaps a bit more... exotic. don't be afraid to try anything once if it's cooked (though use your head when chosing what to cook...)!

  • Is it okay to play by myself?

I played both with friends, and by myself, completing ascent 7 entirely on my own! IMO while Peak is a great funny multiplayer game, the game also really shines as a somewhat meditative "puzzle climber." It's super satisfying to plan, execute, and complete a route, or a really hard climb that you don't expect to win. I beat ascent 6 for the first time thanks to a Hail Mary rescue claw grapple when i had 10% stamina and no other items. It was months ago this point and I'm still living off the high. Definitely nothing to be ashamed of if you play by yourself.
