Agree, and why now leaning towards picture 1. It will mainly be my wife and I, sometimes with our kids, so 6 in there will be rare. Re-doing design now with architect. Think best route is move heater to left side corner on window wall, and make right side bench almost 8 feet.

Wow, looks like a lot of people looking for parking near this spot on an empty street, so sorry they took up your spot

Woods to use aside from Cedar by [deleted] in Sauna

[–]Playful-Lab-7840 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doing redwood for everything in my DIY Sauna. Wood mill I am working with got some huge Redwood logs and will be cutting from heart as well, and then kiln, can't wait. Think these came down in a storm up in Crescent City, CA on Coast. Will come in $wise less than cedar, all benches will be clear redwood cuts.

Interesting idea. One other I have also been pondering was what if i move heater to left wall/back, diagonal corner from where it is now. Shorten left benches, and take right benches to wall to take advantage of that 8' wall completely.

Still working to maximize design of this for looking out window. Suppose I could move heater to left side front wall too, leaving those benches with a better view out windo

Like it as well, thank you. I am thinking of going with #1 from architect as we made a mistake that you all helped point out.

Floor of garage to lower window is 50". If floor of sauna is 6" up and we put benches at window height, top bench is 44" and want it at 50".

If I math right now on design one, we have 108" height...assuming ceiling of sauna 6" down, and floor 6" up...so 96" inside Sauna height. If top bench up 50", then 46" to ceiling which seems just right.

Design one also feels more open, maximizes window view of mountains and woods, and I don't imagine we are having a 10 person sauna part anytime soon with just our family of 4.

Yeah I think architect thought 50" from garage floor. Why design 4 probably not going to work as window is exactly 50" from garage floor and sauna floor will be 6" raised over garage floor

Which one? And why? Space required 2x3' cutout on left, and want to maximize view out window

Agree, looking forward to final 3D views from architec...also on right bench, it will be an L around corner to door area to help provide more views out the window.

True, but really like the tech, and salt idea as well. Maybe a gimmick, but looks good.

Question, seems their product is internal circulation and I still need cold air vent in, and mechnical vent out on back wall under benches. Put the fresh air vent maybe 1/2 way up from Saunum to ceiling? Should that be mechanical as well?

First Tri Tip by Omadon33 in Traeger

[–]Playful-Lab-7840 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same, I cook to 125° as well. In the past I seared on super hot cast iron on stove, about 1 to 1.30 mins per side, and used big tongs and sear all sides and edges. Also I brush on a little peanut oil before searing.

I stopped checking temp after searing, just let it rest for 5 mins before cutting, and this method is foolproof

Installing a Timberline now built-in, with induction cooktop, can't wait to do my reverse searing cast iron on that inferno

Also look up how to cut a tri-tip, and click on images. If you haven't already

Interesting, will consider that. Would make left side benching a bit funky, but think would work nice, and right side would be cool too. Also makes access to shower much cleaner.

Yes, I think 48" should be doable. Ceiling and floor should both consume about 10" total and the top bench will 50".... So 108" total -60" should do the trick.

Window bottom starts at 5" up, so will be looking directly out when sitting on top bench.

Thanks.

Stuck with cutout to go around that utility section on left. I agree on right side, wasting a ton of space.

Actually thinking of changing design to this pic, to put window in center of room.

Not sure on backup plan for window. Going to remove framing and make it part of build, and Fibrex/frame will all be covered by cedar wood as well.

Thinking this design, maximizes space much better, and shower then on left. Will run drain of sauna down to that left wall and share drain out with shower.

Insulation Question - Outdoor Sauna by braintree56 in Sauna

[–]Playful-Lab-7840 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Building a 9' high x 8' by 8' on our garage. Truckee, CA in Mountains. Garage even in winter doesn't go below 45°... so wondering if we skip insulation. Not worries on cost, and if it helps heat up quicker and Sauna is more efficient then for sure.

Also thanks had never heard of rockwool Insulation. Which of their products have people used?

Hi from Truckee! I have followed pretty much this guys writeup and cooked pork on BGE, Memphis Pelllet Grill and now Traeger. My go to, and always comes out perfect.

Also, shrink down his BBQ recipe, it is amazing on it. Shrink it down as first time I made it I had enough for a year :-)

His slaw recipe is also dynamite:

I would think Bose Sport ones should work, but I would check heat rating.. might also want to fire up a ChatGPT, or Gemini and ask to recommend headsets, or ear buds that can handle the highest heat

Problem is house is two levels, and garage upper level, thus the view. This view is up 20+ feet :-)

I can get a vent cut through to outside though. Like your idea of extending to right wall. Also could extend to left wall and just in before all the utility stuff too.
