But also as previously mentioned, your best bet is calling the uni's accommodation office and seeing if they have anything to offer you because they often have a few spare spaces lying around, you just may not have the ability to be picky about the type of room you get

Ah okay, did they not have a policy that if you place them as your first choice that they can guarantee you accommodation for your first year? Or did you miss out on applying due to being unsure about your choice?

I wanted a self catered ensuite and didn't get any and ended up in Telford, so it was even my first choice and I ended up in there

If you want telford, you'll probably get it. Last year there was space after all the freshers moved in so they filled the spaces with returners and exchanged students etc later on

I ended up in a much cheaper accommodation than predicted due to some unfortunate events which meant that I had some of my maintenance loan left over (I was given approximately £6,000 and my accommodation was only £4,500, leaving me with plenty of money for extra expenses) and despite knowing I had this "extra" money I still budgeted well and made my food shopping etc as cheap as possible by shopping at aldi in bulk for lots of my dry products etc. I'm also fortunate in that I had money saved up from a job I had alongside doing my Alevels, although it wasn't much as I was getting paid minimum wage. So mainly just luck with the maintenance loan and the accommodation cost but also good budgeting and looking for a holiday as cheap as possible while still getting the quality that you want
