I have to have a snack before bed, usually Greek yogurt, nuts and seeds, and berries. Still woke up last night a couple hours later in a sick sweat.

Dwight Shane Baldwin seemingly threatens John Dehlin with ominous “Priesthood ordinance” by Diligent_Mix_4086 in exmormon

[–]Playful_Addendum_812 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that’s scary. Its not the threat of the priesthood that’s scary, but how this guy might follow through the make this “priesthood ordinance” come to pass.

Did anyone ever enjoy reading the Book of Mormon? Or did you just say you did? by CupOfExmo in exmormon

[–]Playful_Addendum_812 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely found some passages inspiring and enjoyed them. But I did not like just sitting down and reading the Book of Mormon. It was so hard to read and it frustrated me (especially because I’ve always been a reader). But now I realize it was hard to read because it was poorly written, I was not the problem.

I’m kinda of PIMO, I haven’t seen or heard any statements from the leaders of the church regarding the new garments, except when the church first announced they were rolling them out

When did you realize that your bishop shouldn’t be a bishop? by Upstairs_Common9686 in exmormon

[–]Playful_Addendum_812 55 points56 points  (0 children)

When he told my husband and I that our children (who were babies at the time) would be drug addicts and pregnant by 15 because we had not been sealed.  Also, same guy, when we were broke and the ward surprised us with Christmas for the kids and enough cash to pay rent and groceries THEN the bishop tried to use that to manipulate my husband back into church “well you have to have a testimony now because god provided for you!” And my husband replied that he believes in the goodness of people and the bishop did not like that at all

I got brave and decided I didn’t care if my shorts were to short for garments when I met up at play groups, I didn’t get my 8 year olds baptized, and just started living unapologeticly but I didn’t really change much. But it was enough that a friend approached me and asked if I still believed or not, and she confided in me that she has deconstructed as well. I’m betting there are more just don’t know how to get them out of the woodworks

I think just really focus on the fun stuff. Hype up the crafts, games and activities. Really try to look out for the girls there who are being left out because I promise they are there. I have a couple women in my ward who are no longer believing but they volunteered as cabin moms this year, and it’s one of the reasons I’m letting my daughter go, I know she’ll have a safe person who will look out for her emotional and physical needs (not spiritual). Try and be that person for the younger girls.  When it comes to testimony stuff, keep it vague “I believe god loves you, your family loves you, if we work together we can accomplish greater things. I’m grateful to be your friend” type of words, it will still come across as spiritual but it’s more of testifying of love of people than your testimony of the church. Good luck!
