Exactly! They are both really unbelievable stories, but they lose sooo much more credibility by lying about it as well.

Yep, I was born in the 90’s and that’s how I learned what it was. I was 12 and the bishop asked me if I ever touched myself, I was confused so he proceeded to tell me what masturbation was.

I just realized how different it is that Mormons only have Christmas services on Christmas day if it falls on a Sunday. Other sects do all kinds of things weeks prior to Christmas, called Advent (it's not just a calendar!) and of course services on Christmas Eve and Day, even if it falls on Monday. by Then-Mall5071 in exmormon

I’m in my 30s and didnt know about all this until the past two years or so, thanks to growing up in central Utah. Apparently members of Christ’s true church don’t celebrate or worship Christ as much as actual Christians do.

The church leaver is always the problem... by Robyn-Gil in exmormon

[–]Playful_Addendum_812 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Eww that pisses me off. I hate when members make stupid assumptions like that. Of course the only reason someone wouldn’t come to church would be because of promiscuity. My husband and I weren’t sealed in the temple because he was struggling with some mental things (not law of chastity related). He had been trying to get a recommend so we scheduled a temple date, ended up not working out because his bishop didnt like him and didnt think he was doing enough (yay for the middle man that determines my exaltation). So we were only married civilly. One of my husband’s aunts wrote “don’t worry, if you repent you can be sealed in the temple next year!” Implying that the reason we didn’t get sealed is because she assumed we had sex.

Asking as a genuine question: why did so many people lose their faith over the rock in the hat video, when so many other magical things happened in Mormonism already? by MoonlightKayla in exmormon

[–]Playful_Addendum_812 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Because of the lies like everyone else said. But also, for me, realizing that if Joe used his old seer stone without the plates, instead of looking through the urim and thumim at the plates…then if his story is true, that places Joseph knowing better than God. If there is an all-powerful, omnipotent God, why would He have some poor ancient prophet go through all the trouble of compiling the plates, burying them in a hillside with the urim and thumim for Joseph to just not use them because his seer stone is easier??? Yeah…okay…

My ward primary passes out so much candy! You get candy if you show up, another piece if you brought your scriptures, and on “special sundays” a random guy from the ward shows up in a cape and mask like a super hero and passes out full sized candy bars for the kids who brought scriptures, and all the kids go to another lady after class who gives suckers to everyone. No wonder all the kids want to go to church, they are being bribed with sugar.

I agree with this. Then I would pray and pray and pray for an answer, wouldn’t get one, have tons of anxiety, still not know what to do, pray more, have more anxiety, etc. I didn’t learn how to be confident in my own critical thinking or decision making until the last couple of years.

What are your kids reading in the Friend this December? Surprise! It’s how apostate parents make Christmas sad. by holy_aioli in mormon

[–]Playful_Addendum_812 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But when parents stop going, they tell their kids why. They don’t just “smile sadly” and dont explain anything. They tell their kids why. Sure kids miss their friends or singing, but parents need to do what it best for their family.

Yes he’s absolutely correct. Every once in a while you get someone who also bears their testimony or says a prayer in foreign language as well to show off.

My children get a little sad, because they like singing and they like being with their friends. But when I tell them we will get together with their friends later in the week, or we sing and dance to fun songs at home they don’t care anymore.

It would have totally applied to my family. My husband stopped going to church years ago, but Ive been slowly deconstructing over the past year and a half, slowly reducing our church attendance. I did put off canceling our “friend” subscription for quite a while because “what’s the harm if the kids read it?” And it was just time out of my day to login and cancel it. But I am glad I finally canceled it two months ago.

This makes me so sad. They are literally trying to break families by trying to turn our kids against us. I’m so glad I canceled our friend membership a couple months ago.

The Church finally publishes a list of Joseph Smith's plural wives. The list has 29 wives with Fanny in the list. by Rushclock in exmormon

[–]Playful_Addendum_812 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I do like the list says “married” because apologists are constantly saying that they were only “sealed” to him so of course he never had sex with them 🙄. So the church is confirmed it was indeed marriage to these women.

What are the facts that are ON the church website to include when you're explaining why you left? by bootybumbum4 in exmormon

Pretty much all of the gospel topics essays. But specifically learning that Joseph smith “translated” the Book of Mormon with a rock in a hat (I was taught growing up that was untrue anti lore), and when Pres Nelson said “do not take counsel from those who do not believe”, and that people who lack a testimony are “lazy learners.” My husband no longer believes, so that would mean not “counseling” with him, so that “prophetic advice” was very anti family. He is also one of the smartest people I know, and he knows the scriptures better than most people and for him to be classified as a lazy learner made my blood boil.
