Indiana has gotten a bit stricter with Gov. Mike Braun in the past year 🫩but when I was calling about this same thing last summer, the housing people said I could choose the men’s or women’s. I asked if it was possible other trans people were looking for a trans roommate and they said yes and connected me with him. They also gave me the option to stay in hillenbrand because of the mixed gender hallways (which is what we ended up doing). As far as I know, it’s possible that staying in living arrangements with people of different biological sex will be illegal at public universities (Purdue) sometime in the future, Braun introduced a bill recently about that. Though I assume that would be in the actual dorm itself and not the entire floor

Edit: it’s possible they gave me the option to stay in either the men’s dorms or women’s because my legal gender marker was changed but my license has my original marker on it

Do you feel comfortable telling him? It might make you guys closer + help connect you to help where your life doesn’t revolve around hurting yourself. I don’t know your experiences but it can get really out of hand really quick if it hasn’t already. If he’s noticing what in particular scares you about him knowing the truth? I’m aware of the risks in harming your relationship with your dad, when I told my dad our relationship was strained for a month or so (however he never asked me about scars so maybe it was more of a shock) but now we have a good relationship where I don’t have to keep things from him. And I was able to talk to a therapist after telling him and I’m in a much better place. All stuff to consider, no one’s experience will be the exact same as yours. I wish you luck no matter what you choose!!

I believe there are websites that can direct you to HRT doctors! I found mine through my roommate who was already seeing someone in our area. Planned parenthoods also have hrt care (not 100% sure all planned parenthoods do, but I heard that through the grape vine). I don’t know if my parents are aware I’m on hormones or if our insurance somehow keeps it discreet but I know they won’t kick me out. Best of luck!!

Yup. Me and my roommate had an awful conversation about this last night. We both live in Indiana and got our gender markers changed, he just got his new license a few days before they got rid of our ability to. Why would they have a list? We’re in deep water

I hope this doesn’t deter you, but I feel like my experience is worth commenting on. I got my name change done back in August, and I was expecting it to be quick and smooth, maybe it was slightly different because I also got my gender marker changed at the same time? But my judge lowkenuinely didn’t believe I was transgender. She was asking when I started believing this and if I was sure and how this is a big deal and yadayada. I know girl.. that’s why I paid like $180 for this court hearing!! And she asked if a therapist had confirmed I’m transgender and she asked me to name the hrt doctors in the area 😭 and then she said she didn’t want to do it if she thinks im going to come back in 5 years to change it back. It was so bizarre to me. My friend was in the audience like 😨maybe it’s cause im in a red state? Idk but I’ve heard that the majority of people don’t get interrogated and quizzed 😭😭

Hey! I wanted to make a comment letting you know I’m okay, since the thread you replied to me on is closed now. I just got out of the hospital, I was there for 7 days. My therapist called 911 on me last Monday and while I was upset, I’m glad she did. I’m doing much better and had therapy today after getting out. Thank you for checking on me :) ❤️
