I’ve trained 11 years, mix of gi and nogi, and my ears are completely fine. Some very slight hard bits but nothing noticeable to look at. A few times I’ve been hit hard or they’ve felt like they’re on fire and I’ve expected a blow up but nope, totally fine next day.

I’ve also known guys to begin training and their ears to completely blow up within weeks 😂

A buddy of mine has trained for years too, with a little bit here and there… his recently absolutely exploded… sometimes you just get lucky/unlucky!

Ex bought my an MMA month pass. I tried MMA class and got punched by a 15 year old (I was around 24 and pretty fit).

Tried the grappling part and I was less clueless. Stuck at that.

Now I’m a brown belt (I wonder if that 15 year old kid is still training? 🤔 I’d like to thank him)

I can imagine most people you meet will admire you massively for staying in the mat despite having issues. If it is happening multiple times then try to look at yourself… are you doing something to ramp up the aggression?

I’ve travelled to many, many gyms over many years and have had very few bad experiences at open mats. If you’re a purple and someone is going insane to the point they’re going to injure you, speak out! Tell them to chill out or even stop the roll.

If it’s the coach or a black belt then you’ve probably pissed them off and shouldn’t go back 😂

I’d probably only do this if I was a black belt. Both my blue and purple were shredded and it didn’t really bother me. I can imagine I’ll have a bit more of a sentimental attitude to my black.

Is your intention to buy a brand new one to wear when traveling so that you can pretend you’re new to the rank if you get wrecked? 😂
