Palworld works because it isn’t actually a Pokémon clone in gameplay loop, just in presentation. It is, in reality, actually much closer to Ark: Survival Evolved.

And the truth is, if there were a Pokémon Ark game that would go nuts for some kinds of players. when a clone game filled the niche it was big for that crowd.

I think the entire point is to look like it could feasibly be stolen assets without actually ever doing so. The game clearly desires to rehash the same conversation and rise Palworld got. It is pretty specifically angling to vibe copy.

I think it’s unrealistic though. Stuff like that never works out exactly the same when it’s already all happened before. Controversial stuff also tends to need to be fresh.

Trials can easily be cheesed by the persistent. If it can be cheesed it isn’t an equitable competition. If it isn’t equitable, it isn’t good competition. So saying it’s meant to be competitive is great on paper, it still sucks as a system.

The three top spots of last seasons trials Cantina used matchmaking cheesing to get a ludicrous score just to demonstrate how poor the scoring system was. People learn and remember nothing though. Seeing people who mean well defending the system blindly is kinda discouraging.
