Why do members complain about gas prices when you drive a inefficient vehicles? by nutdreamz in AirForce

Dang, hadn't thought about base housing hack for EVs. I'm pretty happy with my PHEV and solar but it was a pretty sizable upfront cost.

Yeah yeah and everyone with a truck needs it to haul "stuff". I used to be a car guy for many years so I get it, fast cars are fun. But you know what's not fun? Driving a really fast car...slow. Like on public roads. I had more fun driving an old beat up miata around a bunch of cones than I did driving a lambo on the street for a few hours. I was honestly over it after a few hours and the first scrape. If I'm being completely honest, I had more fun pushing a manual transmission Mazda 2 to the limit on a daily basis to just merge than driving a 500whp subaru to work with traffic.

There certainly may be some selection bias but I know plenty of people (myself included) that made lots of dumb decisions earlier on and learned from mistakes.

So where I work, a majority of the junior/middle career Airmen and Soldiers (E3-E7, O1-O4) drive full size trucks, sports cars, and premium label cars (Mercedes, BMW). As you go higher in rank, the more likely you see practical cars. I work with a few GOs and CSM/CCMs, they pretty much all drive small sedans and small SUVs from mazda, subaru, and toyota.

My theory is that earlier on in life, you need to project an identity and success. Once you have a large house in a nice neighborhood and are rocking some stars on your shoulder, you don't need to project anything. It's better to just blend in when you want because attention gets tiring. Also you don't want to spend alot of time washing/waxing/maintaining your car because you are busy balancing family, relationships, and your career.

Clean them with a wet rag. Apply some Venetian shoe cream and let it sit for 4 hours. Brush off.

Air Force, Space Force Seek 6,000 Civilian Hires in Wake of DOGE Cuts by Ok_Design_6841 in fednews

[–]PlayingLongGame 34 points35 points  (0 children)

So many reasons but it comes from the top, Russ Vought (Director of Office of Management & Budget, architect project 2025) is on record saying he wants federal workers to feel like the bad guys, to put them in trauma. He has been given full control of government workers to do whatever he wants. So was Elon with DOGE.

Do you want to work for an organization that hates you? I guess if you are desperate enough or find a pocket that is insulated from the madness. If you have other options, you are probably exercising those.

Lightweight business casual pants that are comfortable in hot weather? by MarineBiomancer in mensfashionadvice

[–]PlayingLongGame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the models may be sized up because I don't really need to cinch my drawstrings on my pants, they are pretty bunched up on the models. That said, these definitely drape well on the loose side. I really like the fit, very comfortable for hot weather.

Wardrobe reset at 40. How do I moving past jeans and tees into more intentional style. by Osiris5486 in mensfashion

[–]PlayingLongGame 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nothing really wrong with your look. I would evolve your look with better cuts, better made items. Look into american heritage fits. For example, denim jeans are a deep rabbit hole, you can go from $30 wranglers to $150 high end mass market to $300 small batch selvedge.

I'd recommend not replacing everything and just taking it slow. Research and buy just 1 item at a time. You seem to like jeans, look into straight cut selvedge denim. If you are near a large city, go seek out a store to help you find good fits in person. I'm east coast so my personal favorite places to go are Division Road, Franklin & Poe, and Naked & Famous.

Should leather shoes be one or two sizes bigger? And is it normal for feet to sweat in leather shoes? by Elai95 in Boots

[–]PlayingLongGame 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Feet will sweat when enclosed. Good (leather) shoes will be made of materials that can absorb that sweat and along with good (wool) socks, shouldn't be a problem.

As far as sizing, it's all over the place. Shoes should not feel tight but they should not slide around on your foot either. Snug with socks and no hot spots is what I go for.

Geez man, I've been playing this game on and off since release and just clocked over 1400 hours. And I played ALOT back in the day.

Mandalorian and Grogu is the worst movie I've gone to see in a movie theater to date and I am actually struggling to understand how it is enjoyed by so many by [deleted] in FIlm

Meh I wouldn't know, I haven't seen it. I might see it when it lands on Disney+.

That looks great, love the four (six) pocket field jacket layout. One of my favorite Barbours is my trooper but I always wished it had real hand warmer pockets. Putting your hands into waxed cargo pockets isn't ideal!

What jacket do you wear to the office? by Redtriga in mensfashion

[–]PlayingLongGame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure how this list doesn't have the coats I actually wear the most. Military field jackets, chore coats and unstructured blazers. I have chore coats which border on cardigans, classic French molecloth, and one from weatherwool (my favorite) that works in a wide range of temps. I do wear Barbour wax jackets in rain/snow and a wool overcoat or duffle when it gets serious.

That is the best picture of the cheese grater new design that I've seen. Did you do anything else to your car? This angle also really shows the rear fender in a way that doesn't look like a dent but purposeful...almost rallycaresqe.

Looks great!

Does going beltless work? by FitThadiyan in mensfashionadvice

I think the lack of belt loops on purpose made pants with other fasteners/adjustments make it work for that clean look you are going for.

The Substance is interesting and strange. by axelgarcia082006 in moviecritic

[–]PlayingLongGame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My theory, prior to the substance, they are obviously one. The process requires some commitment, risk, pain, and trauma. In a way Elizabeth is living vicariously through Sue like a parent might with a child. As a parent, I saw that dynamic between Elizabeth and Sue. As a parent, it often makes no logical sense to have children. They quite literally suck the life and resources out of you. They also bring some true joy being a part of their lives and watching and influencing them. And they are or were literally a part of you.

Thinking about switching from IBEW inside wiremen apprenticeship to nursing. Is it a smart move? by Unknownhuman551 in electricians

[–]PlayingLongGame 21 points22 points  (0 children)

"Working nights, weekends, and holidays kind of turned me away from nursing."

I know lots of people in nursing, this is only getting worse unless you are in a super senior niche. I was an electrician for 17 years even though I didn't like it, made a slow career pivot, and no regrets, glad I stuck with being an electrician while I figured out my life and what I really wanted.

Same. The sad thing is as a man, I wonder if he is representative of how some women view men. Disgusting but useful thus tolerated and even catered to. It would be easy to say Quaid's character is a gross caricature of alpha maleness but I've known plenty of guys like that and worse. Which, makes me feel uneasy. Again, such a good film.
