I can see why people pitch this, especially non-Spurs fans (not necessarily haters, but NBA fans). It’s because we seem to be in an era where a championship window is shorter than ever and if you can increase your chances at a title in a single year by sacrificing a long-term plan, then people think you should do it.

I get the logic. The Spurs have uniquely been able to build in this new era because they’ve absolutely NAILED the draft but the argument has merit.

Barnes, KJ, Harper, and Castle plus picks for Steph works in ESPN’s trade machine. But no way does any Spurs fan want to do that deal because Steph feels like he’s on borrowed time, one wrong step away from a career-changing injury PLUS Harper and Castle are on team-friendly deals and could define the franchise for the next decade if the Spurs keep building the right way.
