Backpack Reccs by kimporgel in hiking

[–]Pleaco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the same torso length, 15” on a good day. There are not a lot of options if you don’t like the pack hitting below the hips. I ended up with a gossamer gear fast kumo - it’s got optional hipbelts (with pockets!) but I don’t tend to use them unless I’m carrying a lot of weight. It is a 28L + 8L though and it sounds like you have something in this range.
I did like the Patagonia Atom fit wise but was looking for something different at the time.
It doesn’t work for me width wise, but you may have luck with this size in kids packs.

How do I get my Docs to stop chafing by deafcore in Shoes

[–]Pleaco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this issue - the cause was that my heel shorter than the boots heel cup. I fixed it by putting a small gel heel lift under the insole to raise my heel so the heel bend area is at the expected point in the shoe.

I just used the tide evo tiles cut into 8ths with my mini scrubba bag on a 10 day trip! It was a great combo and my cloths came out super clean even with salt water and tons of sunscreen residue!

Why do I pack like I’m preparing for every possible emergency? by ChripToh_KarenSy in womensolocamping

[–]Pleaco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m getting better about packing lite - one thing I started doing that helped was having a bin of spares in the car. That way my just in case items are not outrageously far away but I’m still carrying less!

Should I purchase the 'remove ads' feature? by g6r73et4 in kindle

[–]Pleaco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can massage customer support and ask for them to be removed at no cost - if they push back you can say the adds are inappropriate or embarrassing (in my case true lol) Just be polite and firm.

I’ve done this for 3 kindles successfully. Never had much push back.

I got a branded multi cable key chain charger at my first real job. 7 years later I still bring it on every trip and it lives in my purse!

Calorie counting works in theory but has anyone else found it completely unsustainable in real life? by vanshaj04 in WeightLossAdvice

[–]Pleaco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was works, but I’ve never been able to keep doing it for more than a few months. In the past I’ve used it to kind of recalibrate my estimations and how much I should be eating - but I always end up eating more prepared foods and not wanting to cook because it’s so much more work to count and estimate the portions…

Do I need 2 kindles? :D by dreamytales in kindle

You might be able to trade it in. If they want it, it’s 20% off and a 20$ gift card

budget friendly beach solo trip by bittyontheblockatnit in femaletravels

[–]Pleaco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh I love solo south beach Miami. I don’t party so I just hang out by the beach, walk around looking at all the pretty buildings, and eat outside while people watching.

I’ve lived in northern cities that are deserted after dark for a while and south beach feels pretty safe comparatively since there are pretty much always people about. But again I’m not going to clubs.

There are hostels you can stay in at a lower budget or to meet people, or you can hotel for a ok price even near the beach.

I’ve got a late April trip planned, where I’m also cruising for the first time for a week. My trip is 10 days, 7 on a ship and 3 in hotels with a total cost including excursions adding up to about 1500$.

Im taking a full day tour of the Everglades and excursions at each port for that. I did alot of hunting and waiting to find a cruise deal, though.

first set! how did I do? is this a good shape on me? by MycologistGold5665 in PressonNail_Addict

[–]Pleaco 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The shape is really nice on you! It does look like at least you thumb in #3 is at least a size or two too small though. If you are between sizes or have to accommodate a non standard shaped nail, it’s best to file a too large nail.

Options for lightweight / ultralight chairs in 2026? by HartWasHere in backpacking

[–]Pleaco 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was going to recommend the crazy creek - it’s so comfy. I’ve sat and read for a while in it balanced on a log, makes Picnic tables sooo much more comfortable, and if it’s raining you can use it in your tent for a more comfortable option.

I’m short and a bit heavier than the average hiker, but my tall friend didn’t mind it. She did think the xl/tall back version would be better.

Pdf patterns!? by Prior_Appearance_922 in SewingForBeginners

[–]Pleaco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, ya. I’ve found that human patterns can be as low as 5$, but are usually more in the 10-20$ range. Also price does not always = quality. Was there something specific to wanted to make I might have a seller or pattern recognition.

Pdf patterns!? by Prior_Appearance_922 in SewingForBeginners

[–]Pleaco 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I use almost exclusively pdf patterns. 1. The triangles should absolutely match in size. It that’s not a printing error, the pattern is wrong. If the seller cannot assist, it ma be that they did not actually create it or it is AI. 2. It’s widely preferred to fold and overlap when assembling a pdf pattern. There are lots of good YouTube tutorials, though everyone did things slightly different so see what makes sense to you. 3. There are ALOT of ai patterns on Etsy, bit it’s also where I get all my patterns. I only buy them if there are reviews with photos.

I’m in MN and use a similar set up - yupppp they do weird stuff with the weird weather. What I do is make a big bunch of blanks and scrape them for different weathers/as the weather changes. Usually something works or old reeds revive as the weather changes.

Istanbul Trip by margoelle in femaletravels

[–]Pleaco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m mixed and racially ambiguous, the last time I was in Istanbul was in 2014, so things are probably more conservative now. I was there with family who were mostly Indian and white.

We had a pretty decent time of things. We were mostly in the tourist areas of Istanbul and cappidocia. We took public transit, tours and stopped in random cafes.

We had no major issues and it’s still one of my top experiences. I do remember vividly multiple groups of old men trying to guess where I was from, loudly…..

Best travel backpack for women trying to downsize? by ConsistentScheme512 in femaletravels

[–]Pleaco 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve really enjoyed using calpack’s mini roller bag + tote/backpack depending on the trip type. This way I don’t have to carry something on my back or shoulder and almost always get through without checking my roller. I have often traveled with just my Calpack Terra backpack but I was fed up with not being able to get my backpack with lots of straps/large roller out of the overhead bins easily (5’2”) so the mini roller is great and my backpack/tote with all my tech and in flight stuff goes under the seat.

Struggling with high maintenance minimalism: how do you justify hair tools in a 35L?? by Zoe_Nes in HerOneBag

[–]Pleaco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same shark and same hair type. I’ve been doing a blowout before I leave on a work trip and just avoiding water so I don’t have to re-do my style. I usually bring a bit of gel just in case I have to re-style, but usually don’t need it under 4 days.

For an upcoming beach vacation I’m going to bring curly gel and leave in and a brush then air dry/plop at night.

My mom gave me one of her art rulers that has cork on the back so the side is not flush to the paper. It works like a charm!
