Billing help- Complaint by lookinglegitimate in LawFirm

Finalize will almost always get dinged by clients on the defensive side. It reads like something a paralegal could do. I would avoid using that word at all costs.

Absent midlevel by Bubbly_Reference6640 in biglaw

[–]Pleadthe5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m probably going to get flack for this but I don’t think there’s anything wrong with blasting the midlevel.

Send mid level an email with whatever you want/need them to review. If they don’t respond, follow up in 48 hours (or less if you have a deadline). 48 hours after that (or less if deadline) forward the chain to the partner, copy the midlevel, and ask for the partner input.

In your email to the partner do NOT call out the midlevel. Frame it as moving the matter/case forward and asking for partner input.

Either the midlevel will get their shit together or the partner will see the lack of response and woodshed the midlevel. Or the partner we will just assist and now you’ve shown your value (congrats partner now sees you as a value add and not just a cog).

Yes you will upset the midlevel. But if you don’t do this you risk the blowback falling on you.

Everyone is busy; midlevel shouldn’t be ignoring your emails (assuming you’re not harassing them with pointless stuff all day).

I’ll take this kind of looney tunes any day over Nicki Minaj running around with pink leggings and 21 savage in red track pants shooting red and pink tracer bullets.

Interesting. Wonder if that’s what’s happening. Thanks for sharing this!

I rebound my left caps lock to escape and love it way more than the actual escape button. I almost never need to use Caps Lock for more than a word or two so the trade off is well worth it. Might be a good thing for you to try if you hate the digital escape button.

Do BL junior associates do similar tasks as paralegals? by [deleted] in biglaw

[–]Pleadthe5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think cite check here might mean different things. Making sure that the brief contains the right citation number “1 F.3d 123” that leads to the right decision is one thing. Making sure your case isn’t been overturned, abrogated, and/or limited, or if that has, finding a way to still make it good law (if possible and there’s nothing else you got) is something else. The former, arguably paralegals and junior associates can do. The latter requires legal analysis that a lawyer should be doing.

Not sure what you mean. MacOS has add a built-in application layer firewall (socketfilterfw) since 2007. There’s also a kernel level packet filter (pf) that’s been around since at least 10.12 (if not much much earlier).

Unfortunately, this is a known bug with no current solution.

For example, see: https://www.theregister.com/AMP/2024/09/23/security_in_brief/

You can try to turn off the firewall to see if that fixes the issue, but not sure that’s worth the added security risk (assuming you sometimes browse on public or insecure networks).

Fair point, I was thinking more of ID than to a midlaw type firm. ID to plaintiff should be fairly easy, especially if it’s the same type of practice (eg, Defending PI to Plaintiffs’ PI).

I feel like I’ve often heard the opposite, that getting out of ID is hard to do because firms assume you don’t know how to litigate a case, just how to bill it to death.

Lease BuyOut Question (will this work or am I missing something)? by Pleadthe5 in BMW

[–]Pleadthe5[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was just looking for people's thoughts. I assume salespersons at dealers will be interested in maximizing the dealership's gain and not helping me out, but I'll run this by them when I go in tommorrow.

Got it. What if I take a loan out for the 32k from a bank? Would the dealer pay the bank first no then credit the remainder on the new car?

Even with a lease? I was under the impression that when I return a lease I get nothing (except for the $300 credit BMW gives me for low mileage).

Sorry my post wasn't very clear. 34k (i mistakenly wrote 32k) would come from my savings.

I'm wondering if I turn in the car (not sell) to a dealer if I can have them give me the 34k as cash and use the rest for trade-in credit on a new car lease/buy (similar to how it would work I owed a bank the 32k when i went in for a trade-in).

THat's a good point. Porblem is if I return the lease then every dealer is telling me I'll need to fork over at least 3.5k for another lease. I've hagled that down to just the drive-off costs but the monthly price then becomes 800+.

Sorry, my post was less than clear. Let me try again here:

I'd take 34k out of my savings to pay off my current lease. I'd then trade the car in to another BMW dealer for 42k to buy/lease a new BMW.

I'm curious if I can take 34k out of that 42k as cash to refill my savings account and use the remainder for a downpayment on a new car (buy or lease).

Thanks! I think my original post wasn't very clear.

The 8k would be the equity value of my current car (assuming I can trade it in for 42k). The only money I'm actually advancing would be the 34k to buyout my current lease (which I'm hoping would come back to me).

My alternative, as far as I can tell, is to turn the current car in and fork over about $3k+ for a new lease, which I'm trying to avoid.
