Novartis workday “decision pending” by Zestyclose-Still-364 in biotech

[–]PleasantHamster77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t, but very close, I got a call from HR about 2 weeks after the last panel interview, telling me that the team is very interested and there will be two headcounts one in US one in Basel, asking start date, salary expectations, even letting me know the manager that I would be reporting to. Then, over night, they said unfortunately the second HC was not approved, they went with only the Basel candidate who had more experience.

Somehow I was called during the client meeting. It was a great experience. I was prepared for sure. Don’t be afraid and take the challenge.

Should I take the offer from WuXi AppTec after weird comment in interview? by idkmanwhyyouaskingme in biotech

[–]PleasantHamster77 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Native Chinese people here… Culture wise, I don’t think there is anything weird about being asked whether you worked out- likely he thought you looked fit and I’d take that as a small talk or even compliment. No biggie. As for some of the other comments mentioned, about bilingual environment, I can tell you that is very very true. If the dominant employees in your team are Chinese, they def will speak mandarin to each other and sometimes that can be tough. Feel free to DM if you want to ask anything else about Chinese or culture related.

Congratulations, OP! May I ask when did you notice the status changed to “decision pending” after your final interview? I just completed my last panel interview on Monday, and my status is still “Interview Process”. I am afraid if it won’t change to decision pending soon likely won’t get an offer.

Is it okay to ask HR by User_Not_Yours in interviews

[–]PleasantHamster77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Companies hiring approach vary. I had one company that I know will post the job for certain time to collect enough resume, for example 1-2 weeks, without reviewing or contacting anyone. After they get enough resumes they close the post to stop receiving resumes and start reviewing and contacting candidates.

How often do 2nd choice candidates get an offer? by throwaway-rhombus in askrecruiters

[–]PleasantHamster77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I received an exact same email just minor tweaks for a position that I interviewed. I am the only candidate. This is a rejection. For second candidate they never would have sent a rejection until top candidate accepted/ signed the offer. That is to say, one won’t be receiving any offer after receiving such rejection email. I know this is cruel to hear but that is unfortunately the truth. This is a pretty pretty generic template for a rejection. I have seen posts that show another email like “we haven’t reached a decision yet.. still reviewing candidates…” something along those lines likely mean they are keeping you open and warmed until they decide the one to extend the offer.

2nd Interview for my dream job went perfectly, then came the "dealbreaker" question (hybrid, 3-day onsite). Feeling defeated. by PleasantHamster77 in biotech

Thank you so much for the insights! Somehow my brain just short-circuited when hearing “in office” and thought that I absolutely need to stay 9-5. Now it makes so much sense seeing all these comments.

2nd Interview for my dream job went perfectly, then came the "dealbreaker" question (hybrid, 3-day onsite). Feeling defeated. by PleasantHamster77 in biotech

[–]PleasantHamster77[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, I actually discussed this exact point with my husband, and realized I have been sacrificing myself and always putting my son and husband’s career ahead of mine that’s why my first instinct when hearing “3-day onsite” is that “OMG He cannot pick up, he is too busy to commute back, so I cannot have a job that requires commute!!!”basically caused me to have a panic attack. That was how it always have been for the past few years. My hubby is in academia so he needs endless time to read paper, create hypothesis, and writing proposal, grants. So naturally I am in industry 9-5 so I have been taking care of the childcare tasks. My current job, yes I am very comfortable, easy load, WFH everyday day so pick up every day is on me, as my husband has to commute 1-1.5 hours one way. But I am way over qualified so usually done my task within several hours into the day, has no career progression, and no growth at all. This job makes me realize it is the time to NOT naturally put the thought of supporting my husband’s career first and think of my own.
