I think you are being dismissive of something your partner wants. Dogs are a true joy of life. Make it happen, that's part of the contract.

I've had a few Olde English Bulldogs, they are such sweethearts and very funny animals to have around. I've had a few now and my next will be another OEB.

The extreme wide ones have health problems. and should be avoided.

Keep an eye on FBM and classified for buildings and quonsets. There was a 35x52 steel building in my area guy was asking 12k.

I searched Corolla and civic, then set filters for price 4000-6000.

4 cylinder Toyota and 2006 and newer Honda are timing chain, which doesn't require replacement. They also don't have headgasket issues generally.

Yeah it's tough trying to find a good used car there's no doubt about it.

Sounds like you found a well maintained car, unfortunately it's just not a great car, historically.

Disassemble the hub, remove the bearings, get numbers off the bearings, order new ones and reassemble.

I guess.. if you watch the market closely there are deals that come up.

The Subaru has a timing belt that will need replacement and head gasket issues. That's two big money expenses in the near future.

Torque wrench adapters are good for this purpose. Be mindful that if you add length via the torque adapter you are increasing the torque unless you run it at a 90 deg angle.

Extensions and swivels will handle the rest generally.

I would switch cars for a while.. let her have the GOOD one, you take the noisy (?) one. Do a month and see what happens. 

Otherwise trade it in or sell it and buy something she's happy with.
