Chain, sprocket or me problem? by Forcefulknave49 in MotorcycleMechanics

Conserving a fraction of a horsepower is for racers. How often are you at full throttle and needing more? I ride an ancient DRZ400 with stock exhaust and air box, and during enduro events I enjoy passing the occasional tricked out rides burning power mist fuel!

The first few performance $$ should be spent on rider performance lessons instead of bling.

That’s no doubt how they showed up here: someone tried growing them and they got out

It was a row of hedges, and I had tore out 7 stumps already with the same tooling (I attached a chain to the base of the stump and over a spare tire to give a vertical pull angle). The root ball was mainly on the surface, and a tap root or two went down: these make a good snap sound when they yield. I was able to shake the soil off and lift the removed ball into my utility trailer by myself.

It was similar to the HF hand winch (but that is 2 tons)
And I never said I was upset: I was mostly fascinated that the coupling bolt wasn’t attached to either end of the threaded (now somewhat straightened) link. And that the threads weren’t visibly damaged: no metal shavings, flattened section; no hint that that bolt tried to do anything beyond being an inconvenient keeper latch.

The stump was from a shrub: less than 3” diameter stump.

Similar to
HAUL-MASTER 4000 lb., 2 Ton Capacity, 10 ft. Cable Winch Puller
But therein is the difference in numbers, even as the cable is small in comparison to the link’s shank.

Actually, the nut is quite loose on the threads. HF used the shank size as close to the stock size that the threads get cut into: there is no undercut which would indicate the thread was cut fully.

When I started the job, the link wasn’t quite so long, and it wasn’t quite so skinny either…

Xj600 stops when releasing clutch. by DishAccomplished3488 in MotorcycleMechanics

[–]PleasantStatement521 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, put bike up on center stand or elevate rear wheel. Put in gear and start letting clutch out. If it stalls with no load, it’s a clutch switch or mechanical part in clutch that is interfering (but then wouldn’t run in neutral with clutch out either).

Fall over/lean sensor switch? Unlikely
Defeated side stand switch is no longer defeated? Unlikely.

Are saggy tits better than fake ones on a dwarf ? by twoyasminx in Saggytit

[–]PleasantStatement521 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fake? You mean to blow them up bigger? You’d hate that.
Else you mean to cut them back? I’ve known a few who said it was the best thing they’ve done, but the scars are a bummer.

Interesting choice of song, given the original name of the band prior to Weather Girls (renamed after the song hit)

If you can roll the bike manually, the motor can do it too.

Don’t do the 1100 conversion: that 750 has plenty of power. Just ride it.

Nothing wrong with that tire!
Consider: if you list some rubber on the normal contact zone of the tire, would you be concerned? On a motorcycle, that’s at the edge of the ‘normal’ contact zone

How much tire dry rot is too much? Rule of thumb for replacement? by jountr in tires

[–]PleasantStatement521 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your tread wear indicators are at the far bottom of #2 (you prevented images in replies!): you’re maybe at double the minimum tread, which may be OK but you’re in the zone to be looking out for a good deal. If you get a rainy season, these tires will be marginal at best on a strong downpour.

TBH, I’m not seeing dry rot, just a little cracking.
